The holiday has morphed a lot over the years for us, especially as our own family has grown. The last few iterations have been at our place: My wife cooks a nice juicy bird and prepares all of the fixins' - potatoes (sweet and regular), stuffing, corm, turnip, cranberry sauce, pumpkin, rolls, etc. Usually a pie and ice cream for dessert along with cookies and Grandma's fudge. I don't know how she keeps it all straight, but she does a fantastic job. Quite honestly she should have been a chef.
As he has done over the last few years, my brother will be coming with his wife-to-be and her 4 girls so the kids will be happily playing for hours. But my parents won't be here - they're living the retired life and moved to Arizona in July. And my grandparents will be moving to North Carolina in two weeks to live out the rest of their days (they're both approaching 90) near my aunt, so this will be my last holiday with them. I'll miss them a lot, but they should have moved away from the cold and snow 15 years ago.
It is "just anther day" but it's a good excuse to do up a special feast and to slow the world down for a few hours. And the 4 days off is a nice little bonus.
