It's quite close to Lake Louise. If you stay at Lake Louise you can go to Kicking Horse 1 hour 1 way, or Sunshine, 1 hour the other.
Stay in Golden..

I'm trying to cultivate some customers in Alberta too, so this
sounds like additional incentive.
Olympics are 010.
Because KH offers something different the WB.... Most people I ride/ski with like it better...
Oooops. Coulda swore it was 2011. 2010 seems to close, they haven't gotten anything built yet! lol
Olympics happen in even numbered years.
One thing that's getting done for the Olympics is the Sea to Sky highway from Van to WB. Holy smokes, I go up about every 3-4 months in the on-winter, and they are humping on that thing.
Yup, I saw a story on discovery about it the other day. It's needed widening for years. The Olympics fortunately forced them to do it. I'm a little afraid that the rush to do it now might make for some sketchy engineering that could lead to disasters down the road though........ :-o
It's Canada, not Minneapolis, so I suspect the care of the infrastructure is probably much better. The things that I've driven on at Rt 99 N. seem quite impresive.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha...Ha! You're kidding right? I LIVE in Canada. Our roads safer?!?! Nothing could be further from the truth. It took a overpass in Quebec falling down killing 5 people to prompt the gov to go out and inspect the rest of the overpasses in Quebec, at which point they found 200 more were crumbling. Did they close them then? No, they just banned truck traffic from using them. A truck didn't even have anything to do with the first one falling, It just fell. Our roads are whiter than ski trails in winter with salt. Everything is in a rapid state of decay as a result. The Sea to Sky gets shut down atleast twice a year due to landslides. Hanging the 2nd lane precariously over the side of the mountain on rapidly built supports creates an even greater receipe for disaster when those slides occur, but what else can they do?!?
I talking about Canada, not Quebec. (I'm Canadian btw). I live in CT, and a while ago we had a bridge (Mianus River) part of I-95, that just decided to fall apart, thankfully after rush hour, and we barely get snow here, so complete lack of maintenance seems to blame.
You can't blame BC for rock slides, and most of the improvements to the sea-to-sky seem to be inwards, rather than over the water - what that'll do to the landslides frequency remains to be seen of course. Maybe I'll just take a seaplane up next time then.
The story I watched on the contruction of it was detailing all the engineering departments hardships of trying to find something to support the new lanes they were having to hang out over the side. They didn't show any inside blasted sites. I'm from Nova Scotia and the roads there are disgusting. It's hard to go for a motorcycle ride due to the fact here's so many pot holes. I almost killed myself one night a few years ago thanks to a 3x3x1 foot deep crater I couldn't see for on-coming headlights. It DID cost me $1800 in new rims. Bridges are forver falling down in Nova Scotia at a rate of 2 or 3 a year, however, they usually collapse under the weight of a lumber truck. A large DOT salt truck even found itself in a river last winter. The really sad thing is; there is higher fuel tax in Nova Scotia than anywhere else in North America (which is supposed to be set asside for road infrastructure). That makes N.S.'s gas prices almost the highest in Canada and 50 to 60% more than the States. BTW, Quebec is still part of Canada and they actually have the nicest road system I've driven on in Canada.
You Canadians gotta stop arguing... Your sounding like your from the US...
I want to visit Regina someday
A ski area within driving distance of LA...I could only imagine what the crowds would be there.
Regina? Regina? Why? Hey, maybe you can just go to Newark, or Rochester or something - it's closer right? Regina? Yanks:roll:
"It's like hell, on earth." No, that's Mississippi.
I actually went there earlier this year, you can read my review http://forums.alpinezone.com/13361-snow-summit.html
Yea the crowds can be be pretty bad, its like on loon on the weekend. Although its never cold (definition of cold: over 40 degrees), which for me is sweatshirt weather with the sleeves rolled up. Too bad I didn't know this the first time I went, I was wayy over dressed. If ya asked me its not that greatt though, too crowed, and not nearly challenging enough, next time I go back I'm either gonna learn to snowboard or just hit the terrain park
