It would have been nice of them to put it on the snow report so any passholders in the area could have got a few runs in

It wasn’t for Magic to do, it was the person who rented the mountain - they are boss for the day. From what I understand they are locals so probably knew who they were going to send a last minute invite to.

As of last weekend they were planning to, with equipment to be moved from east side now that Carumba is done. Not there this weekend so can’t comment on what has actually happened. Also don’t know how the pond refill is going - it’s been a bit cold and that locks up recharge flow. They need a lot of water for Wizard-Talisman-Wizard.

But they need at least Talisman done for spring.

Heck, they have a big U14 race on Talisman, that is kind of a right of passage for the U14's of the Southern VT Council coming up in a few weeks that I am sure they want to host

Wizard was groomed ttb yesterday. The chute skied fine, a little thin and firm in a couple of spots, but fine. Tali and sorcerer were great. Didn't ski Hans, but it looked okay from the bottom looking up. No sign of any snow making. Pond looked down, but I'm not a regular so I can't really judge how low it is. Great day, not a bad run. Lots of fresh in the trees, trails were tracked out.

I’m sure most of you get these alpine updates; addressing the mountain rental:

“The storm hit as predicted from last week's update, with over a foot of fresh snow to help expand trail/glade count from the mid-30s to 50, and have all treeskiing accessible boundary-to-boundary!

While we could all get some fresh turns in last Sunday afternoon, our two private mountain rentals this week got incredibly lucky in terms of the timing of the storm. We would have loved to have a special opening for everyone on Monday, but our early-week bookings of rentals are made over 6-months ago. These rentals are an important source of guaranteed revenue to keep Magic fiscally sound on the weekdays we are are normally closed.

These big storms are pretty rare and our private mountain rental business has grown over the years, so it is essential for us to maintain this opportunity for steady, profitable business (we have 7 more rentals to go with another two next Monday and Wednesday). It puts extra strain on our small staff to service these rentals (and we appreciate them tremendously for all they do!). But, they help this indie ski area stay in business so we can continue to be here each year for our season passholders, Indy pass holders, and ticket buying guests.

If I could control the weather, we'd time a big storm on Friday nights for all of you. But alas, what we can control is this innovative way to generate revenue so Magic can be here consistently for you Thursdays-Sundays, for years to come. This week, we have more of the mountain open with all this new snow when most people who work are able to get here to enjoy it. And, I hope you do. Thank you.”

Good for Magic, with that many private rentals and maybe 100k (or more) of rental income! They deserve the $$ after all of their issues!

I don't blame them one bit for doing private rentals, I'm sure it goes a long way towards keeping the place afloat financially. However, if they're going to (from what someone said above) rent the mountain out twice a week for almost every week of the winter, then I think it's fair to say they shouldn't advertise that they "open for powder days" when that won't be possible for the majority of those days.

I’m glad they got the terrain open and that there is a base but the skiing today is garbage off the groomers. Going home after a few more groomers to just not totally waste the Indy burn

Yeah been a lot of skiing since the storm. Need more snow. And also need some snowmaking on the west side.

By garbage you mean bare spots of roots, rock and (reggae) dirt?

That and also just not enjoyable skiing on the snow. Tried sorcerer talisman twilight zone red line and everything was just WORK. No flow. Not fun. Cold. I just didn’t feel inclined to stick around.

Misfired today. Oh well
