"You keep using that acronym. I do not think it means what you think it means."

The ADA wouldn't have anything to do with the state deciding to close the highway. Not all natural areas need to be made handycapped accessable, the ADA wouldn't come into play unless they were building new structures, IIRC.

I certainly understand this, but because it is indeed a park with handicap accessible facilities in addition to being a natural area, I'm pretty certain the ADA would have something to say about it if the state decided to close the highway.

OK, we allow only vehicles with handicapped license plates and/or the plastic placards my Grandfather used to have, but that's it! If you can walk OK you park you car at the shed, and you walk, ski, run, skin, etc. up the notch!! 8)

Let's get the fatties out of the car and let them use their legs. Let's face it, America is FAT. Close the notch to traffic and make a dent in the problem. ;)

And I'm pretty sure they wouldn't. The ADA isn't a body, it's a law, administered through the Department of Justice. In order for the ADA to apply here someone would have to find a provision in the law which is violated.

Since there are legitimate reasons to close a public highway (maintainance costs, safety, desire to reduce public access) it's hard to see how the ADA would automatically apply here. It's certainly possible that the DoJ might require some accomidation to allow handicapped access to other parts of the park, but the state could close the road if they chose to.

The ADA wouldn't allow such restrictions.

ADA? :blink:

American Dental Association?? :blink:

ADA=American Dissabilities Act

That's what I figured...but I was trying to figure out what that has to do with the highway being opened/closed...
