Jay Peak has filed their ACT250 Permit to create a parcel of land, which contains the Long Trail, along the ridge of the West Bowl which they will be turning over to the Green Mountain Club. This will probably ensure that Jay will not face any resistance from the GMC during the rest of the permit applications.

Although this may seem minor, since they first announced this more than a decade ago, it is the first actual real sign that they are serious and are now planning their move into the West Bowl.

I wish them luck. My prediction is lift service in the West Bowl in four years.

Cool. This is awesome news. Nice way to get the GMC off their back. Quid Pro Quo anyone? I guess you can call it a win win. Hopefully there is no Bicknells Thrush over there.

...or black bear. Burke and Sugarbush both had to deal with that.

Between the real estate upgrades and proposed lift upgrades, Jay has got a lot of momentum going for it. Overall it might be the mountain most on the move in the next decade. We'll see what that does to it's popularity. Can they convince the Boston market it's worth the extra hour drive over the Southern VT areas? I'm guessing their bigger target is the Montreal market. If the West Bowl plans include some decent cruising terrain, they could really siphon some of Tremblant's business.

In my mind, northern New England
^ Don't forget the hockey rink they just opened. A sure sign that they're courting the folks of the Great White North. As I said in another thread, this is the kind of arms race I like: new terrain -- Mittersill at Cannon, Casablanca at the 'Back, Brackett Basin at the 'Loaf. What's next? On map glades at Slidebrook? The Bruce and Teardrop re-joining the Front Four? Luv it!

Interesting you say this....When I was up at Jay last year, I rode the lift with a couple from Montreal. He said they ski Jay and not Tremblant. But nothing to do with the terrain. It was the people who ski Tremblant. In his words, "they think their shit don't stink".

(**Disclaimer: I've never been to Tremblant. It is on the to ski list....eventually.)

Saw a picture of pink tape being wrapped around a tree facing Jay from the west bowl last week... got me pretty excited!
