So after 30 years of being on snow i am thinking about taking a trip to calli for some spring riding(was watching ski school last night). i have never be anywhere in calli(snowboarding). at this point im thinking about going for 5 days. basically i want to ski till the early afternoon then sit around and drink beer for the rest of the day. i need some decompresion time. im thinking about just staying at squaw and be done with it. i would like to not to have to rent a car. but im thinking it might be fun to saty by the lake. what are some peoples opinions that have done the spring thing before. what is the PT like in tahoe? where is the best place to fly into? thanks for any info.

Flying into Reno is pretty easy. From there you could take a shuttle (maybe 25$ each way) right to South Lake Tahoe. If you stayed in one of the casinos you could walk across the street to heavenly and easily never need a car. The rooms in the casinos are good for the money, and if you pretend to gamble the drinking is free. Server will always come back quick if you tip good at first.

Kirkwood. Higher elevation, keeps more snow longer. Best bet for spring. Gotta drive 1/2 hour to get there though.

It seems like this year was an average to below average snow year in the Sierra with Mammoth at 342" for the year with a 7-10' base. When we where there in June of 2006 they had a 6-9' base.

Doubtful Kirkwood will be open past 3rd week in April, That is their traditional close time and they have not announced an extension. Heavenly normally caloses then, too, bu has extended their season through the 1st week in May as they have the highes elevation of any of the Tahoe resorts and have pods that hold snow very well. Squaw will be open as well. All of these resort could ski into June, but folks in Tahoe start thinkin more about the lake this time of year.

Mammoth will probably make it to Memorial Day Weekend or beyond, but it's a long haul from Los Angeles and a bit away from Lake Tahoe.

Apr 27th - Closing Day! The final day of Kirkwood's 35th Anniversary Season is sure to be filled with plenty of spring revelry and surprises!

and

Heavenly closes May 4th

Squaw and Alpine will both be open too.

Snowbird will be open weekends until at least Memorial Day, and I bet into June. Fly into SLC and take a shuttle to the mountain. Ski and stay packages from 99 bucks a night. There won't be much going on at night up there, but just ski your butt off during the day, drink beers on the tram deck in the afternoon, and pass out. Rinse and repeat.

Just note that in May they are only open Friday, Sat, Sunday.
