Did a nice 8+ mile loop at Burr Pond with a couple of the C-fire guys. Rode some different stuff from the last time I visited earlier in the summer. This place is a good riding spot! We had the place to ourselves other than a couple hikers and a dog.

The trails here have decent flow with a nice balance of technically challenging trails as well. There were some really nice, makeable rock gardens that showed up a few times during our loop...In my opinion, the crown jewel in this network is a 1.5 to 2 mile long mostly downhill trail...this trail has fast flowy turns mixed in with some rockwork scattered throughout the trail...this rockwork includes some rock bridging and spines. This trail alone is worth riding this place. The trail around the pond rides really smooth and fast too. It's a perfect warm-up before getting to the good stuff...and it's a great way to end the ride too!

A place I must ride again before the season is out!

Sounds like fun!! I haven't had the pleasure of riding up there yet but had heard that bikes where not looked at favorably up there? Is this true?

I'm impressed! I've done the ~3 mile loop walking around Burr Pond and it can indeed get pretty rocky in there. Way to go!

WoodCore - On the DEP's website for Burr Pond, they say that hiking is allowed but do not mention bikes. It's blue trail so I suppose they could harass people, though there are no signs on site prohibiting bikes (Brian and I looked for them).

They do not allow bikes on the Muir Trail in that network. I didn't see the sign at the trail head, but my friend said he knows for a fact that they aren't...Other than that, the people that I have ridden with there have never been hassled on the blue trail loop around the pond or on any of the other "local's trails"...of which there are a few new ones over the past year or so. I believe they were done with permission as well.

and as far as blue trail access for bikes...that is pretty unclear to me across this state. I guess it depends on where you are riding and what sections of blue you are riding. Last year, a DEP officer warned a bunch of us to stay off the blue trail at Nepaug...At WH rez. and Case, the blue trail is in play for bikes...I have also heard that blue trail riding is allowable unless you see a sign posted saying no bikes...For example, at Nass there are 3 or 4 of these signs scattered throughout the forest. This has to be the millionth time I posted a message in this regard...so, I will stop after this one. I promise!
