Season over for me now. Was going to go later but life gets in the way and the annual trip to Utah was so spectacular (Incredible snow) that I pulled the plug and packed away the gear. My top 3 days (calander order).
2/21/11 Camelback PA. Presidents Day. On Sunday of that weekend after skiing from 7:30 till about 2:00 we went to have a happy hour(s) with very good friends that have a condo in Camelback Village right beside Laurel Glade trail. During the time we were there, there was an truck accident on I-80 which closed the highway and made a mess of a good sized crowd leaving the area. We sat there inbibing and watching traffic creep out of the area as the snow started to fall. Our friends graciously asked us to stay over which we did. Woke up the next morning to 8 fresh and the trail right outside the door. No crowds and good shot of powder till noon. A spectacular day for the Pocono Mountains.
3/25/11 Killington Vermont. A return visit to an old friend with several fellow Camelback friends. The mountain 100% open, good snow, nice temps, no one there and all sorts of glades I never knew existed before. One of the funnest days I have ever had in the woods in the east. I do really like some of the improvements they made since my years there back in the 80's. Topped it off with a really fun happy hour at the Long Trail Brewery. My daughter hopes to work there during her college years at Castleton State so I hope to see more of Killington in the future.
4/9/11 Solitude Mountain Resort. For the 2nd year in a row I ended my season on a high note. Last year it was Snowbird (18-inches new), this year it was double digit powder at Solitude. There is so much snow out there that its basically a free for all. Cliffs are buried, the trees are so deep that there are no worries about surprises. Skied a bunch of runs in Honeycomb Canyon accessed from the Powderhorn and Navorone gates - stuff I had never hit before.
Had a wonderful season from the Pocono's to the Greens to the Wasatch. On to 7 months of dry land training and summer activities with target start date of November for next season.
