I know some mentioned the view from Sunapee looking north toward the lake but from the summit if you look west on a clear day you get a fantastic view of Vermont and several ski areas from Mt Snow to Killington. From the top of Cannon I was able able to see Stowe and Sugarbush. I also give an honorable mention to my home Camelback where on a clear day one can see the Catskills about 100 miles away.

Isn't it Bromley to the left, Stratton straight ahead, and Ascutney (RIP) to the right?

I'm not sure where on the mountain you are getting this perspective. From the summit you can not see Stratton as it is SW. Actually come to think of it from the summit I don't even think you can see Bromley until you head down a little. The best view of Strattom IMO is at the top of the chute on Wizard. I'm really not sure about Ascuney.... I suppose that what I am thinking is Okemo could be that though I would have thought Ascutney would have to be further East.

Seven ski areas in all (two lost), and the back sides of 3 more. You should "view full size":

Cannon (Franconia ridge is right in your face, and great views into VT)
Burke (Great views to the East of the Presidentials and northern White Mtns from East Bowl, to the West you can see the Green Mtn Spine from Sugarbush to Jay Peak, the Lake Willoughby Gap/Highlands, and Owls Head/Canada)
Presidentials from Burke:

Willoughby from the top of Warrens Way:

Jay Peak (The open summit gives you an awsome view of southern Quebec {incl Montreal}, Northern VT, NE New York, and the White Mtns)

Non NE:
I don't have any pictures handy but Crystal Mtn, WA has amazing views of Mt Rainier.

surprised nobody has mentioned the top of Mt Ellen with the 360 panorama

This would be my favorite that is lift served. There's a very similar view from the top of Mansfield, but you need to hike to get to it. The Mansfield view stretches across the broadest part of Lake Champlain.

cool thread.....

1. Wildcat
2. Shawnee Peak, ME
3. Cannon

As previously mentioned, the views from Heavenly are amazing, and the views from Alyeska are right up there, too.

Saddleback....Top of Kennebago Chair looking NW towards Rangeley and Mooselookmeguntic Lakes

Or the true summit of Saddleback looking SE at the back side snowfields at the Loaf!
Wish I had pics here at work....

Looking more north than northwest but still a pretty good view. :)

Great thread. While most responses are focused on the panoramic views from the summit, there is a great view from Narrow Gauge Extension at Sugarloaf. It is just below the summit and at the out edge of the trail as it sweeps left. The overlook allows you to see all the way to the base of the mountain and get a great perspective of the entire trip down. The picture from Jay made it come to mind. No pictures unfortunately. I almost always stop and take a look. Instant stoke.

Along this vein, I always thought the view from Mittersill looking back at Cannon is great.

Found this pic on Google. I can only image the awesomeness on the way down.

Definately a good one. First time up that lift, checking out 'black' diamond.... then seeing those views at the top, then hitting those double diamond bumps up (steepest bump run of my life) -- Sold on Mt Ellen.

Wildcat, Cannon, and Bretton. Hands down. I could see someone making an argument for Gunstock, it is different. I can't think of anything that even comes close to those three.

Depends on what you enjoy. I LOVE the view from the top of Manny over Champlain to the Dacks, north and south along the GM spine and on a good day east to Washington.

There's some great pics in this thread. From the NEK I love the picture of the Presidentials from Burke. St. Bear, your photo of Cannon is fantastic. I can't think of a summit view that isn't pretty awesome. Of those I've seen in NE: The views of the lakes from both Gunstock and Sunapee are spectacular. The view of Mt. Washington with the grand hotel in the foreground from BW is memorable. I've only been on Wildcat in the summer. The views of Mt. Washington and the ravines is spectacular. Hoping to see the views this winter.
