AWF--where at Snowbird did you repel? I can't think of any spots there with rope. At Alta you need to go around a rock to get to Eddie's High Nowhere, and there is a rope there to hold onto to help out, but I can't think of any rope action at Snowbird.

4 - War Dance - Nashoba. Bob R nearly kills an entire beginner class, then spends some quality time with the Ski Patrol.

Seems like Chilemass isn't going to let Bob R live this one down.

It also appears that like many fish stories, the fish gets bigger and bigger as well

You shoulda seen the one that got away .......Bob can tell you about that one..... :D

1. Cannon March 10th was the second day after a huge powder dump but the first day afterwards that the Upper Mountain lifts were running. Boot deep in spots I can't mention, but Tramline and Kinsman tie for best runs that I can mention.

I had a fortune to ski Cannon with my son on 2/23 right after 5,6 inches of snow fall. I skiied Kinsman for the 1st time and it was the best skiing I had for quite a while. Also making the first run on Upper Cannon that morning was magical. Fresh powder
on top of normally groomed flat surface was unusually
smooth and easy powder to ski on.

Can't say that I had too many memorable ski days this year.
Only got in about 15 days this year and no powder days.
Was out in Utah for a week in March but no new snow that week or the week before. Of course it snowed about three feet in VT during that week, but that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. Better luck next year.

it was so stupid glade with just a little repel u kinda sat pulled urself, i could of went off it but the glade you would land in is so tight u it would be scary. It was very scary and thought i was goin to get hurt. Dont know why it wasnt closed off and what kind of idiot set up the little rope. It was a rope hanging of a tree with little grip things, let me try to find a pic

Austin,

Huh, that is strange. I like how you call the person who set up the rope an idiot, yet you still found yourself using it

Where on the mountain was this?

you can't upload an image directly from your computer. to use the bbCode tag you tried to use, the image must be hosted online. you could upload to the AZ gallery, probably the easiest way.

oh ya i was an idiot to go down it, and i was by myself and it was about 3:00, the enterance was very easy and i saw a lot of people going in so i went, it was rated double black but was not on the trail map, i dunno where everyone else who went in the enterance went because i dont think everyone did that. The scarier thing is that there was a person following me with his wife who didnt look like nearly as good as a skier as me.
It was to the skiers left of the gadzook lift if the very steep section.

I know exactly where that rope is. Looking up the mountain, it's to the right of the Gadzooks high-speed quad, about 1/2 way up the mountain. There are a whole bunch of chutes there. I saw that rope and was thinking of taking it, but there were too many exposed rocks (OK, I was scared) so I ventured on to the next chute.

Those chutes are actually some of my favoirte trails at Snowbird, but they need fresh snow to cover up the rocks and stumps.

I just got near the edge and looked at it and though no way, maybe i would do them in deep powder but no way moguls

Austin,

You got it, chutes like Great Scott and Silver Fox are where it is at. Keep heading out to UT every winter and ski your tail off and you'll be hitting them with style in no time. You must pay attention to the snow conditions and know when the off trail stuff is good or not, and realize the aspect of the trails you are on (whether south or north facing) and how the wind has loaded etc... Nothing is worse than being in a big bowl of ice crusted south facing snow, it looks good from the lift but when in it you can't ski it, that's why I'm not a fan at all of Vail's back bowls, they face south.

Snowbird/Alta were the first places I went with my family too when I was in high school and I didn't realize it then, but I've seen now in my travels, those two places are pretty much the best in the US. Jackson and Whistler/Blackcomb are darn good too, arguments could be made for those places too. But once you go to Alta, you get spoiled on its snow.

Not feeling like working today so browsing the site and found this thread. This was an exciting season for me...I finally did my first black diamond runs. I've had maybe a total of 20 days (in my life-I'm almost 46) on skis and found an instructor at Windham patient enough to get me on a black. WOW! I'll admit the first run was better than the second (which was pretty icy and under a lift-ugh) but I'll always remember them (and the bruises that I earned along the way!)!

Top 5 runs

Back on track here....

Spent the Sunday of Presidents weekend @ Wildcat. First time there ever. Blue skies...fabulous view.

Lynx, Wildcat and (at the end of theday) Cheetah.

Went to Okemo mid week near the end of Feb. Quantum Leap! (Jackson Gore under the lift). Nice drop in. The best part of this trip was....well there were a few but breaking in the new boards...Volkl Supersport Superspeeds had to top the list. Cruising with friends that day was also a cool thing. World Cup for two rips before closing was pretty nice as well.

Must add my Chatfest eveining @ Wachusett with TrailBoss and several other pals. Snow wasn't that good....but the company was fun.
