....see, I think overall, I'd put Okemo in the top ten. It's not my cup of tea, but they are the best intermediate mountain around and deserve credit for that.

As much as I dislike the idea of Okemo, you have to give them credit. They turned the place around and are quite successful...it is the kind of skiing a majority of the market wants and is willing to spend money on. Is it what "we" here in AZ like? No.

As many know, three years ago I was a passholder at Cannon/Sunapee/Gunstock and I spent a good deal of time at Sunapee, as my ex was an intermediate cruiser. That season, 2005-2006, I felt as if the customer relations were great, the snowmaking and grooming were excellent, and the facilities at Sunapee were above par. But these compensated for the crowding, blah terrain, lack of challenge, and the overall "snobby" and pretentious atmosphere that seemed to pervade everything. Maybe that is because of the clientele...I don't know...what I do know is that when 2006-2007, with my ex no longer in school, pass rates were too high and we went to K-Mart. I was much happier. We voted with our dollars I guess.

My places are Burke and Sugarbush...for similar and different reasons. SB has the variety, value, and now the facilities. Plus, when I ride the lifts, I find more kindred spirits rather than folks who want to wow me with their new skis or high tech skiwear  Oh yeah, and did I say that Win is the man??? :D He gives us what we want.

Either that or it's just a stupid list.

Yea, it is just a stupid list. Skiing is priding itself on being quirky, random and irreverent. Look, at least they have us talking and I am thinking about skiing at Jay for the first time. That makes the list a success for them.

Makes me wonder who the hell reads Skiing Magazine anymore....

If you have not looked at Skiing within the last year, especially within the last TWO issues, look again. It is such a refreshing use of photography, attitude and language over SKI. Checkout how they are producing the mag cover phtography as a fold-out with no article teasers, so you can use it as a poster on your basement or office wall. SKI continues to repeat the same article cycle year after year. Plus, Skiing published the email I wrote them in this issue. OK, I admit I was trying to get "letter of the month" to win the skis - but I wrote about the same sentiments as I expressed in this paragraph about the mag.

I agree . . . Skiing this year has been VERY good. Excellent photography, better layout, and better attitude in terms of the writing. Becoming one of my favorite ski magazines . . . .

I stayed out of the Loon talk, but Angel st, Rum Runner, Upper walking Boss, Upper and lower Flume, Tripple trouble and Rolling bear are not int trails.

Bash loon, but when its not full, you get 2100 vert fairly quickly. Mike's way glade is challenging at least for me. Bucksaw and "mind gone," glade of angel st are fun glades. With the expansion, crowds were a little thinner last year. I did not think the price was worth the value before Boyne took over and that is why i went to SR.
I still think its a fun mountain. Parks are very good. That area they are similar to okemo. I'll probably get 10 days in at Loon this year. Loon could be considered a int mountain with cruisers. No real double blacks other than this years new trail. Maybe the Jackson gore area makes it comparable. Just not a comparison I would make.

I got a lot of stoke out of the gear review; I was at Snowbird when they were doing it, even saw the group pic being taken, so it was very cool to finally see it in print. :)

If the main criteria is how the Mtn skis, then Magic needs to be on that list

They were listed as runner-up for best week after a storm.

Where the hell is my magazine is what I want to know. It seems like everyone got their gear guides a week before me. Now, I'm waiting on the resort guide, which is my favorite annual addition. Great for dreaming
