It's been snowing. I wanted to get back to Vail as they got hammered the last couple days, but my budget and inability to wake early said otherwise. Still fun with zero crowds, no competition. Snow fell dense which was needed to cover suncrust/rocks. It was a good day to launch stuff.

The ridge was soooo nice today

This was wall to wall snow last year. I've hit a lot of rocks, downed trees this year

O.K. lunch time. Thank you uncle Sam. Also a shout out to my Army friend Pete, he grabbed me MANY of these a couple years back. I still have a couple in my trunk. MRE stoke time!

on this fine day I opted for the Beef Stew. Just like mom never made!

For lunch this soldier had Stew, Tootsie Roll (hard as a fucking rock), cracker with grape jelly, grape drink mix, pineapple tidbits

After activating the heating pouch, I dug right into the canapes, along with desert. It's a war out there, this soldier doesn't have all day

With an ingredient list like this you just can't fail!

And then I went back for some more......

more snow, less poison if you're going to torture us with the fact that it's still snowing out there. :p

Seriously despite being loaded with preservatives MRE is a damn fine lunch for skiing. The chili mac wins every time, I ate the last one last season I think.

Whoever had Vail today and yesterday got the goods. They got lot's and lot's of snow. This has been a tough year on the divide for sure

Can't wait to join you in CO in a few weeks. Do you think other areas may be open with all this new snow? Save me some snow -- and those little Tabasco bottles in the MRE.

I don't know for sure. Vail will likely be done, they sit pretty low anyways. Breck/A-Basin and LL will likely be open. Maybe Copper but don'tcount on it. They usually don't close due to lack of snow. I'm taking Mon/Tues off. We need to do LL on Monday anyway, tickets are going to be cheap. You will like the ridge a lot. I'm actually getting a cell tomorrow or friday, will pm the # when I do. Forecast looks good actually.

I lived in little cottonwood for 3 winters in the 90's. The first winter it snowed 200 inches in the month of December alone. Wolf Creek sometimes has weeks like that. Last year thanksgiving through that following week it snowed 100 inches at loveland. Year before i got the same thing at crested butte and steamboat (actually everone got in on it that year). Nowhere that i can think of does it happen as frequently as Alta.

I am just finishing my third season here in the Wasatch. The prior two winters were epic. While the present season has been substantially less so, it has definitely perked up in the last few days. Kingslug and I have been enjoying all that white stuff for the past couple of days in beautiful sunshine!

Interesting comment by Snoseek that an area usually covered by wall to wall snow was "sketchier" then usual with stumps, rocks etc. I found the same to be true on my trip to Utah the last week in March. There were places that I saw rocks and other hazards that I had never seen before on my many trips there. Caught a stump in Honeycomb Canyon that sent me for a spill. Still by eastern standards the cover was excellent and the fresh snow we encountered out there was awesome. Each trip it is harder and harder to board the flight home. Someday maybe I won't.

I was in the thick of it, just got back late wednesday nite, I extended my stay by a day to take advantage of the big dump we got Monday into Tuesday. We arrived last Thursday nite to less than stellar conditions, even after the 100" they had gotten recently, once the sun baked the snow, it wasn't worth going off piste until after lunch once it softened up. We stayed at the Cliff lodge with the club, then I managed to bunk with a friend that was staying at the Lodge at Snowbird. He was staying until Saturday for some PSIA clinics being held out there this week. Worked out well for me and was worth the extra $ to change my flight. We skied Snowbird and made a few trips over to Alta thru the "Basshole", the tunnel that takes you over to Alta via Mineral Basin. The good news was the solid powder days on Tues/Wednesday. Mineral basin was closed Tuesday for slide control and opened up Wednesday AM.

A few pix of me, a few of my lines in Mineral basin on Wednesday, in line for 1st tram up Wednesday.
