I'm heading up to Loon on Wednesday, and was wondering if anyone has been through Scaler. Just curious if this is something an intermediate could ski solo, it looks like it's about dead middle of the mountain, so if I whack a tree or something, there'd be folks around to help out. (or point and laugh, if appropriate )
Probably my last trip for the year, thanks again for all the tips.

When I was at Loon last Friday, there were a number of people going into Scaler.

I can't tell whether that will be the case on a weekday, but this week's NH vacation week so I'd guess that Loon will be reasonably busy so you may have enough company.

Have fun...

We skied Scaler Saturday and it wasn't to bad. You definately have to watchout for rocks. I have a little edge work to do tonight. We were the only people in there both time we went in Saturday.

To piggy back on this thread does anyone know anything about the section of trees between the upper steep section below the gondo and big dipper? The East bason chair goes right over it. Even as of this Saturday it didn't look like too many tracks in there and the trees did not look too tight. I am hoping to get in there next time I am not skiing with the kids.

Scaler is a very easy glade and is appropriate for an upper intermediate. Technically you should never ski trees alone, but Scaler does see a fair amount of traffic.

It looks roomy enough between trees, how is the pitch on that? And there is no way I am an advance intermediate, intermediate is about right.

If I remember correctly, you can stay on the left edge (facing downhill) right next
to Lower Bear Claw and be able to bail out of the wood pretty easily.
