I've always quietly snickered at the outdoors-wannabes in suburbia who get all the gear, dress the part, but never get out.
Now today, I saw a ringer. This 40's -ish guy, physically fit, walking down our burb's sidewalks, using trekking poles! We have one hill in our flatland town, and it can't be more than 30 feet high.
He probably jumps into his Range Rover with winch and spare 4x4 tire on the roof after the trek to drive around the block home.
Now, a fellow walked by back in June with a full backpack, hiking shoes, poles, the whole shabang. I said "WTF, there ain't no camping within 20 miles of here." My wife was a bit more generous, she postulated he was 'getting into shape'.
Sorry, I had to get that out. I see this silliness all the time. I feel better now....
