July 1, 2004 Thursday

Trails(s) Hiked:
Livermore to Mt. Tripyramid and back to Livermore
Up the North Slide and down the South Slide

Total Distance:
11 miles 3000' elev. gain 5 hours (book time 7 hours)

Difficulty:
Strenuous

Conditions:
Hazy Sun, dry, mid 50's early to mid 60's in the afternoon

Special Required Equipment:
Sturdy boots, nimble feet

Trip Report:
The Livermore trail is a gravel road with little elevation gain. A pretty easy walk. The section of the Mt. Tripyramid trail between Livermore and the North Slide had numerous blow-downs.

The North Slide was fairly dry. The only trouble I had on it was when a slab of rock, about 2'x4', broke away under my feet and began sliding down the mtn. with me on it. I didn't waste much time getting off that bus.

The summits were rather boring. Only Middle Trip. has views, the North and South peaks are treed in. By far the best views were from the upper portions of the two slides.

The South Slide was, well it's a steep gravel bank, nearly impossible to descend without slipping, sliding, or falling on your face or butt. I did all of those, but I got to the bottom with losing any blood or breaking any bones so it was a great hike, except for the black flies and mosquitos which are the reason I completed the hike in 5 hours.:D

Tripyramid loop

Yeah, I did this loop in reverse several years ago and included whiteface. This turned into a deathmarch and your right the Tripyramids really have the best views from the slides. Hey I hope you were hanging ten on the sliding rock! Yikes!
