Summits: North & Middle Tripyramid
Trails: PIne Bend Brook, Mt Tripyramid
Distance: 9.6i mi
Elevation: 3450 ft
This nice warm day found me hiking the Tripyramids from the Kanc. The road was plowed wide on both sides to allow parking at the Pine Bend Brook Trailhead. I set off into the woods shortly after 9:30 and started sweating almost immediately. I stopped to strip off layers and then continued on. It's not often that its comfortable ot hike in short sleeves on January so I took advantage of it. The trail was very well packed the entire way and my snowshoes stayed strapped to the pack all day. Some folks might prefer some light traction or snowshoes on the steeper sections, but I barebooted the whole way without difficulty. There are a few spots on the ridge where snowshoes would have been the better option, but they were short and not worth the time to switch footwear. The summits were clouded in, so there were no views to be had so I just turned around and retraced my steps. The decent was fast and fun, combining boot skiing and butt sliding. Some of the snowbridges over stream crossings were a bit thin and could collapse with much more warm weather, but everything was easily rock hopable.
