It almost seems like Vail has a business strategy similar to that of low-cost airlines. Have a low price upfront (season pass), then charge an arm and a leg for everything else. Most skiers don't realize that there is up close, free parking at Beaver Creek, and free parking (via bus) at Vail as well, so they capitalize on this. There is also free grills at Vail that you can use (Thanks to JimK for showing me), but this isn't well known. I don't pay to park but the latest price for parking that I saw was $33/day at BC and $25/day at Vail. Multiple that by the number of spaces and number of operating days and you can see the resort makes quite a bit of money from that alone and that's only one of the many different places they generate revenue.
