Heard this morning that Vancouver venue for the Olympic Freestyle competition is without snow and the forecasts sucks. They are now talking about building a wooden infrastructure and trucking in snow.

"Sports like moguls and aerials don't require much snow, he said." - Sounds to me like Sundown could do a 12 month bump run if they wanted to. Now wouldn't that be cool??8)

outside Boston nowadays
There was no contingency plan for this to move it somewhere higher, like Whistler?
I don't think this is such an unusual event.

The problem with that simple solution is that the MASSIVE grandstands at Whistler for the alpine events aren't in a good location for aerials  And those grandstands are SOLD OUT for the aerials. So the Olympic Committee will do whatever it takes to build the jumps where the grandstands are, no matter how much trucking in/flying in of snow it takes

You'd think they might have stockpiled man-made in December in anticipation or did it just never get cold there. Wasn't the area getting dumped on back in November/December?

For Whistler...

I think a lot of that was rain for Cypress. Remember hearing about issues there back in December.

YEah i know...

What i meant was: "When was the last GOOD snow season for Cypress"?

I went to Whistler in 92 and it was green all over Vancouver... didn't see snow 30min before arriving in Whistler... So it's not "global warming" issues... So, was it a good idea to do this at Cypress?

When the events look all nice and pretty on TV, hopefully on a clear night with the overhead shots of the lit courses and the lights of Vancouver in the distance, the Vancouver Olympic Committee will sure think it was a good choice having the events there instead of up at the "safer" Whistler site!

Right now though it's a snow management/movement bit of a logistical nightmare

When you drive to Whistler, you are at sea level going up the Sea-to-Sky all the way to Squamish. Of course you're not going to see any snow.

My sister moved to Vancouver in 1986. The region is a temperate rain forest. My sister and brother-in-law have XC season passes at Cypress. Cypress gets a lot of snow. This is very atypical. Usually, they have a pineapple express roar in and melt things but it immediately cools down and they see several foot dumps.

I had green grass on my lawn at Thanksgiving and had to drive to Sunday River to go skiing. That's also atypical.

Sundown, Whiteface or kmart....any of those would be cool.:thumbs up: .

Yeah you're right, they could never hold it at WF. Although WF had the World Cup Freestyle Jan 21-24, followed the next week with the FIS FREESTYLE NORAM CUP and in march the U.S. Alpine National Championships will be held there.

So alnways, throwing them in with Sundown is a fair comparision.

Oh yeah, was1980 Olympics at WF/LP or Killington. I forget.

I use to think you had a clue.
