I wonder how many people from down there will be willing to come north to work in the cold snow? I think it would be a bit of shock for some...

:-?

that seems very odd to me. big resorts such as kmart usually import people (often from other countries) looking for cheap rooming and a quick buck, not people trying to rebuild their lives from the ground up, recreate their home, and find permanent full time employment.

i can not even imagine moving completely across the country to an alien climate to work minimum wage at a seasonal job. granted, some of those folks likely have few better options. rather, i would like to see how much these resorts have donated to the relief effort in cold hard cash. my company is doing a dollar to dollar matching contribution for what any employee donates on top of already having raised over $100k in a week by asking our customers to pitch in a buck a piece. not trying to create a pissing contest here, but i think that meaningful help involves free lodging until these people can get readjusted instead of working for a place to stay, which is how these resorts treat all their imports normally. "we will help you, but what will you do for us first?" i think free aid without strings is a much better option. the articles' use of the word "trolling" is insightful to say the least.

then again, any offer to help the victims of the tragedy should be applauded. but that doesn't seem so much an offer of help as an invitation to work. but that is just my perception of the article. :-?
