Feelings on this.

Groomers made two passes down Vista last night. I think it is a good idea. It sounds like they left half of it natural though. I was thinking last week that it needed it as I poached it. It should make it more skiable and for longer.

Despite what some people may say, grooming is not the worst thing a ski area can do. Hell, even Sugarbush occasionally grooms Castlerock.

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. The other unusual one was pumping snow on Skylight and Paulie's while letting other trails go.....unusual but actually another pretty good move. This is such a weird year, it's really bringing out the adaptive management skills at all of the mtns. Overall Cannon's management seems to making smart choices and doing what's necessary.

Did you actually see this? The reason I ask is a friend told me they were making snow on VW.They would have to pull hoses through the woods.I don't ever recall them making snow there.

No, it is on the website. Not long run from the Tramway hydrants if they are. I have never seen that either. I laso have not seen Upper Cannon open this late in to the season.

More a case of those groomers running on state subsidized diesel. If they don't use it their quota of cheap TAX PAYERS diesel will be reduced next year. They aren't going to let that happen.

Haven't skied Cannon this year but I know from past years - when there was an abundance of natural snow, this is a good idea. I've skied down vista way and found half the trail sheltered from the wind to be full of soft powder and the side exposed to the wind bare. This can be one of the most enjoyable trails to ski at Cannon or one of the worst.

Vista Way is such a ridiculous trail. It can be the best trail on the mountain or the worst trail on the mountain and usually not much in between. Then there is the drifting issue with the left side usually being great and the right side being a rock garden. All this for a trail that is marked a blue square! Blue square my ass, maybe now that it is groomed...

Part of me things they need to drag the hoses through the woods and blow it out, groom it when it goes to crap, and make it a viable trail for most skiers. But the other more selfish part of me loves Vista just the way it is: unbelievably wild and rarely well covered edge to edge except very late in the season.

Vista is one of my favorite trails off the summit along with Taft. I don't ski much else off the summit excepting the glades.

If the bumps are scraped down to the rocks, a groom job is probably a good idea. I don't care for hitting rock in the troughs.
