Fortunately it sounds like the people of Utah oppose the planned gondola welfare for Snowbird.
The article made a very important point:
"Even the private ski resorts that would benefit most from the project have shown no interest in investing their own money in a project that primarily benefits them."
This isn’t completely true. Snowbird bought property where the base would be a “promised” to donate it to the project. That’s a small drop in the bucket though.

It wouldn't shock me if UDOTs cost plan is too low, but this anti-gondy group is disingenuous re-running this analysis as if Trump's tariffs are going to be in place when this thing would start construction in order to make it sounds as expensive as possible.

Alternatively, use Doppelmayr USA (based a pitching wedge away in SLC) for the project and source US steel.

Steel is cheap. It's currently around 2017 prices. And yes, manufacture as much as possible local, if this project ever gets going.

I always favored the LCC gondola project as a way to provide additional access to Alta/Bird, particularly on high volume and storm days. But as I think deeper about it, if they ever built it they would probably discontinue free parking up at the ski areas or impose a mandatory fee, and/or restrict parking to only those staying overnight. Since I currently enjoy many days of free, slopeside parking at Snowbird I guess the status quo is best for me.:sneaky: Whatever, if they eventually build it, I'll likely be pushing up daisies by then.

I'll say this again and I've been saying it since the "one Wasatch days"

Utah has the unique opportunity to create a "European Style" connected ski system that doesn't and can't really exist anywhere in the US.

Connect the 2 canyons and back side with a Gondola system and its not some boondoggle it creates a carless option to ski all of these areas. Its dumb to put more vehicles whether they are buses or cars on the road to get to these places.

whose going to drive the buses? Aren't they already short on drivers? Big busses aren't cheap to purchase and maintain.

This whole pressure against anything comes off as NIMBY by a bunch of people who are likely transplants anyways... Hell half of the active posters on this board are transplants out west...

Europe laughs at this discussion. As they should. Is silly...

Well.......One Wasatch was going to be a solution largely paid for by the resorts themselves. This really only benefits Snowbird honestly....and Alta to some extent. But Snowbird is the big cheerleader.

I think that there would be potentially more support for a private solution such as One Wasatch. And any idea will have NIMBY opposition.

I agree with this. The traffic problems aren’t going away but they will get worse.

Which is why ONE Wasatch will eventually happen, whether the eco extremists and selfish backcountry types like it or not. Sadly, I might not be skiing anymore by then, but the marketing and $$$$ advantage it will confer to Utah is mindboggling.
