Bluetec is what the new VW's are going to have when they get here. They've actually stopped producing the TDI's this year and will be reintroduced next year with Bluetec as far as I know. Not sure why they needed to skip a year.

Bluetec is MB technology. I believe I read recently that the deal fell through between VAG and MB because VW didn't want to give up the brand recognition of the TDI. Even though MB calls their diesel engines CDI.

That might explain why VW isn't selling Diesels (except the Tourag) this year. Stopped producing the old TDI engines and didn't have the new ones ready to go after the deal fell through.

Very possible. By the way, was that intential or a typo? Either way, it's damn funny.

I'd be willing to bet the VW is producing Diesels, just not for the US market. I don't know that anyone has 2008 passenger car (or even light truck) diesels to market yet due to the new emissions regs. (For example, still haven't seen a 2008 Silverado with a Duramax or a Super duty with a Power stroke yet.)

I was just talking about the US and US emission friendly diesel engines. Of course they are producing diesels in Europe still. They probably account for 50% + of the cars they sell in Germany.

If Toyota would bring the diesel powered Tacoma crew cab here, I would fight as hard as possible to get the money to buy one.

This is the first time in a while that Marc remained serious and on point throughout the whole thread.

When I was in Ireland a couple years back, the 4 door diesel Toyota Hilux pick-ups were everywhere. (It's funny, the "Hilux" model name was what they were called in the states in the '70's, and then they dropped then name here entirely. They were just "Toyota pickups".)

I love my truck, don't get me wrong, but next time around, I could get by with something smaller. There was a rumour that GM was looking at a 6 cylinder Duramax for the Colorado and Trailblazer. I think it was just that, unfortunately, a rumour.

I have heard and seen press releases for a 1500 sized diesel truck from ford and dodge. I believe. I would be ok with that but prefer a compact. My dad has a Ranger, and very rarely have I ever thought I wish it was bigger when using it.

I half ton (F150, 1500) really can't handle the weight and torque of a 6L class engine. (I know, the Cummins is a 5.9, but close enough. They'll need to come up with something smaller, like, perhaps a V6 or I4.)

In the early '80's, Ford had a Diesel in the Ranger, but it was conventionally aspirated and not a lot of Umph to it. My last truck was a Ranger, and while it had the cargo room, the narrow cab was kinda cramped for my petite figure. That, and the narrow wheel track makes for a somewhat crappy ride.

O yea I know the chassis cant handle a big diesel. The press releases said they would have a smaller engine to put in them.

On the Ranger, I am a big guy, and have no problem with the interior size, unless I have to ride in the jump seats, then it sucks, but that never happens. The ride isn't great, but it's a truck, what is it supposed to be like?
