Date(s) Skied: Saturday Night 1/17/09
Resort or Ski Area: Wachusett, MA
Conditions: PP, ~10 deg, no line after 7 PM
Trip Report:
Had plans to hit Crotched with the family, but due to concern about road conditions during the snowstorm I went to Wachusett for a few hours. Overall I had a good time...there were some lines from 5 to 7 but the Polar Express cleared out after 7 and even Minutemen was practically ski-on from the singles line. It was a bit cold but there was no wind.
Good news...on 10th, moguls have been seeded on one side of the steep(er) section. Bad news...they are in serious need of filling in and the troughs (or flats, I should say) were all scraped up. Hopefully the snow today will help to fill them in a bit. Just for grins, I tried to make my way down on one run, but after traversing a few rows I realized that the bumps were not newbie-friendly. The rest of the trail was in good shape.
All of the other trails I went on were also in good shape...Challenger was a bit more scraped up than the others but was still PP IMO. The steep section on Smith Walton was a bit firm with some "death crumbles" but it was still quite edgeable.
Only complaint I'd have is that they needed to pay more attention to the singles lines...on several occasions, I'd have to try to squeeze my way when I'd see fewer than 4 people approach the lift. During the busier times, I'd see a number of chairs go up without 4 people on them...:???:
