Conditions: Powder, Packed Powder
Trip Report:
Just another typical quick shot to little Wawa for another night trip. The conditions were excellent, but there was some ice on the headwalls of 10th and Smith late. Otherwise, excellent dry stuff.
Conifer: Took 3 runs, all after grooming. All 3 were awesome runs and for once, it was my favorite trail of the day. The odd thing: The ski Patrol were no where to be found. In that case, I was flying down it today instead of doing 2 MPH over every road because the redcoat hawks are watching you.
10th: Upper was getting scraped later in the day, but the sides of these areas were fine. Lower was awesome and fast. There was great air to be had off the second road which was awesome.
Smith: The headwall was scraped all day, but nothing bad. Probably the least favorable of the 3 summit trails today, but it was still fun. The bottom was fast with a few of the natural humps there for some air.
Frannie's: Today, they had 2 small jumps with decent air and a spine set up. Very icy after the second jump due to the constant scraping because of stopping and falling of others. The rest of the trail was good.
Hitchcock: The rail park at the bottom was gone, but the lips from where the rails were remain and there was some great air off those. Up the top of the trail, it was just like the rest of the mountain. Powder on the sides and Packed with some ice in the middle.
Look Mom Terrain Park update: Snowmaking is hard underway. The halfpipe is starting to take shape as well as 4 or 5 large jumps. There were the beginnings of the smaller jumps on the right of the lift. The only problem was riding the lift through all of the snowmaking which made you look like you fell in a 10 foot pile of snow. LOL.
Ralph's: Skiied it at opening after grooming. The snowmakers had tons of whales to get air off of, but the rest of the trail was it's usual self. As I said last week, it is getting boring for me, but it is the place for the beginners to be.
I wish I could get out of Wachusett and ski somewhere else for once, but the time and weather isn't permitting very well. The next time I'm up north is February 12th-13th at Cannon and Loon. As for now, I guess I have to deal with it, although having Wachusett for a home mountain compared to the others around the area isn't too bad. It's just starting to get a little old. I'll have another Wawa TR Friday.
