Resort or Ski Area: Wachusett Mountain, MA

Conditions: LSGR, Windblown

Trip Report:

Crowded night at Wawa. Not as bad as 3 weeks ago, but lines were still in the 10-15 minute range for the quads. Singles lines moved fast and were a great alternative.

Conifer: Pretty good the whole way. Some patches of ice here and there, but easy to avoid. Ski patrollers were very annoying, stopping almost literally everyone at the roads.

10th: Very good the whole way. Moguls really suck right now, all ice and very poor lines and troughs. Wawa never makes good ones. Trail was very fast and little to no ice.

Smith: They have the starting ramp for the race up at the top and it's very icy going around that, but other than that 50 foot flat stretch of trail, it was pretty good. Steep was a bit windblown, but enough loose snow to turn in.

Hitchcock: Most of it was all ice and I saw many injuries on it throughout the nice. They weren't just patches, they were VERY large sheets.

Look Mom: Some features got taken down, but the colder weather next week should enable snowmaking to resume and build up the park some more.

Ralph's: Pretty good the whole way. Not much ice and not as crowded as usual. Still the same old, kind of boring Ralph's.

I'll be back up there either Monday or Tuesday as well as Friday.

Thanks for the report. I am suprised at how much ice is reported, given the several inches of fluff that came earlier this week. I guess that shows what high traffic volume can do to you.

Yeah I was up again on Friday and the lines sucked.

High volume traffic is right, and low skilled high volume traffic is even worse.

And I concur with Zand's analysis of the bumps. Icy and sucky. I could only make it through about half of them.

Of course, then my ski pre released (forward) on Smith during a hard carve and I minorly hyper extended my knee. Going to take it easy tomorrow and wait til the soreness is gone. I'm quite paranoid about preserving my knees.
