Resort or Ski Area: Wachusett, MA
Conditions: Powder and crud early, PP and pasty powder later, 20s, SLEET
Trip Report:
Got off to a late start after watching it snow all morning. Got there around noon and it figures about 2nd run that it changes to sleet. It came down good, so good at points that it almost hurt through the mask and jacket. Stayed till 3 when I got sick of the sleet and didn't feel like hanging around anymore. Changed to freezing rain on my walk out and the ride home was an adventure.
Lower Conifer / Lower Balance Rock: Cut in from the road after hitting 10th once. Both were pretty good at that point (early) and Balance Rock was especially nicer than it's usual skating rink down the center.
10th: Bumps felt decent but it was hard to see the lines with the super flat light. The rest of the trail was pretty smooth on the right but all of lower was quite bumpy.
Smith: fun with the changing conditions. Bumpy all over the place with 2 nice air spots on lower. Polar was running slow and was a ski-on while I was there.
Hitchcock/Frannies: Hitchcock was decent at the top... a bit slow with its flatness and the slop infiltrating the trail later on. Hit the mounds on Frannies a couple times on the way through.
Challenger: Very slow... the snowmakers have almost flattened out the first drop after the starting house and getting speed was damn near impossible in the sleet. Amazing how much a manmade base can take away a drop (also evident on Upper Conifer). Minuteman was faster than Polar and had a 10 chair wait max.
I don't know when I'll be back... probably not till next week. Need to get up north soon with the new snow but IDK when. Hopefully real soon.
