Resort or Ski Area: Wachusett Mountain, MA

Conditions: Packed Powder, Snowmaking

Trip Report:

Place was MOBBED. I was there for 5 hours and got in a total of 9 runs. 42 schools, parking in the lower lots, and a decent weather night just brought the place up to an attendance of an estimated 5,000+. No room in the lodge for anything either.

10th: In good shape the whole way with a few ice patches here and there. Pretty good and very fast.

Smith: Went down at 8:30 and it was still in great shape. Headwall was especially good with only a small ice patch or two. Lower was fast. Polar Express consistently had a 15-20 minute line all night, running in full speed.

Frannie's: Still a couple of drop-offs to get some air and a dip at the bottom to pop out of. Not too bad. Triple was as slow as always and even had a 15 chair wait at times. You know it's crowded when there's a line at the bowl. Most traffic used it for the park on Hitchcock.

Hitchcock: Still 2 boxes, 1 rail, and 2 small mounds. Kicker is gone. Pretty icy after the landings, but ok.

Challenger: Good shape the whole way. Races were over at 6, so it opened right up. Fast.

Ralph's: Good shape the whole way, but Rangers were lining the trail which I've never seen before. Minuteman had a good 20 minute wait the whole night and running slower than normal.

Indian Summer: Good the whole way. Monadnock had a 5 minute line was was running slow as hell which is typical (something like 200 feet per minute I hear?).

Ollie's: Wow.

I'll be back up there Tuesday.

As for snowmaking, it's happening on Conifer, Look Mom, the Pipe, Challenger, and Ralph's. Base depths are very good right now, so the mountain is in good shape for a sudden warm-up (possible next week). The pipe is almost ready. They haven't even started the park yet, but I don't see it happening until after this week anyway. With all of the people, the trails really were in great shape all night.
