Resort or Ski Area: Wachusett, MA
Conditions: PP, some scraped, cloudy, mid 30s
Trip Report:
Took a short trip up to Wa today to enjoy some warmer temps and hit 10th in what I believe was its earliest opening ever. It was a nice day to get out... no big crowds (still a lot of people for a MA ski area in Nov) and good conditions for the most part.
Conifer: Co-trail of the day. The left side was soft fluff the entire way down the upper half. Spring softness with winter quality. Lower was nice packed powder, great GS turns to be had down there. A bit scraped at the top, but after that it was nice.. good improvement from yesterday. Also appears to have enough snow to survive the rainstorm.
10th: Not great at all, but the fact that it's open on November 24th is amazing. Most of it was scraped where it was groomed correctly, and many other parts had weird lumps and holes and it probably could've used another grooming in the morning before it opened. Salamander wasn't groomed out after snowmaking and therefore wasn't opened. A few people poached it though. Polar was ski on all night and a bit less than full speed.
Challenger: The other co-trail of the day. Conditions were perfect here. Good for GS turns in snow so soft you couldn't even hear your skis in the snow. A few nice kickers on the side of the trail too. Lots of fun.
Ralph's: Better than yesterday with snow almost as good as Challenger, but still a couple scraped areas. If any trail doesn't make it through the rain, it's this one unfortunately. Minuteman was slow again with a 10-15 chair wait at points.
Well, a great 4th day of the season. I'll be taking tomorrow off due to the rain, then I'll be at Okemo Wednesday and Killington Friday.
