Headed up this afternoon before work mainly to check out the now open 10th and get some more early season skiing in. I love when they have a good early season, lots of laps to be had with no lines. When I arrived around 1:30, there were only a couple guns running at the bottom of Ralph's and Challenger. Within a half hour, they had all of Hitchcock lit up. By 3:30, Look Ma was being blasted as were sections of Challenger.
Conifer was mint except for a frozen over section at the top on the flat before Balance Rock. Everything was loose soft snow, tons of fun to ski. A few big whales at the bottom made things interesting on the runout. 10th had a few of those frozen sections, especially on the top flat part and the bottom runout. The best snow was on the steep and at the top of lower 10th. Other spots were a bit slick. Pretty much what you'd expect for its first day. Some spots still a bit narrow, but should get better through the end of the week.
No complaints about Ralph's and Challenger... excellent packed powder on both made for perfect carving. Look Ma was in good shape as well before the park rats started showing up from school.
So expect Hitchcock probably by Friday and then hopefully Smith will get its due for the storm Saturday.
