Resort or Ski Area: Wachusett Mountain, MA
Conditions: PP, Powder
Trip Report:
A 40% chance of snow showers turned into a nightlong light snow event and gave me a second straight mini powder day. The mountain got about 2-3" on top of the coule inches that fell last night. Very nice.
Conifer: Took one run down and it was deserted and perfect for GS turns. I used up the entire trail and took advantage of the good packed powder to make carve some big ones.
10th: Snow was a little looser than Conifer's later on, but it was still very nice for big arcs. The little chute at the top was still ungroomed with some ice coming out on the steeper part, but still fun having some natural shots at Wa. I got it at opening after grooming and that was absolutely perfect as far as crusing goes.
Smith: Headwall had widely spaced bumps with dust on crust in between. Not as many bumps as last Friday nor were they as big, but they were decent. The rest of the trail was great crusing like the rest of the summit. Polar was almost in full speed with up to a 10 chair wait, but usually ski-on.
Vickery Liftline: Excellent. There was a closed sign at the top this time but it was widely ignored judging by the amount of tracks. Powder was abundant to the sides and was much easier to turn in than on Friday. Also less obstacles with the deeper snow. Amazing skiing a run like this at Wa.
Frannies: Hit the mini-park a couple times which is still unchanged besides a couple small kickers. Still getting tons of use and it's held up very nicely.
Hitchcock: Very nice loose powder the entire way with a small patch of ungroomed to the right. Hit the closed right side of the bottom headwall again which still has a couple big (and wet) waterbars but great powder otherwise.
Look Ma: Not open, just wanted to say there's huge piles ready for the park to be built on them. Unbelieveable that they can open the park for Christmas. Last 3 or 4 years it has been late January before they got it open. Minuteman was slow tonight with up to a 15-20 chair wait, but was ski on at times as well.
Indian Summer: Went up the bunny hill for the ultimate powder experience under the Monadnock Triple. IT WUZ AWSUM!!!111!! Seriously, there was a lot of powder under there, but of course it's too flat to really do much.
Well, a very nice night at Wachusett. I might make it up Saturday before Sunday's rain event destroys the natural and brings us back to what we're used to at Wa.
