Date(s) Skied: Thursday 12/22/11
Resort or Ski Area: Wachusett, MA
Conditions: Soft, spring without the potatoes, partly cloudy, upper 40s
Trip Report:
Got up there around 2, place was dead the whole time I was there. Hope they get mostly snow from the storm tonight, one more night of rain WILL do in Ralph's and especially Challenger. After that, lows will finally get down into the 20s for the foreseeable future, so they can finally have at least a good week of good snowmaking, just in time for the Christmas week masses.
Conifer: Very fun to ski, beautiful soft snow top to bottom, perfect for carving, short turns, whatever you wanted. A few spots were showing blades of grass, but the trail is hanging on very well in the warm weather. View from the lift showed the snowmaking whales on 10th are mainly unaffected, so it was smart of them to wait to flatten them.
Challenger: The top part down to the road is in very rough shape, likely won't make it through the night unless we get a lot of white. After that, some thin spots but not too bad. Snow was great and soft.
Ralph's: Quite thin throughout most of it, badly needs a fresh coat of snowmaking. Nice soft snow, but wouldn't be surprised to see it closed tomorrow.
