Date(s) Skied: Tuesday Night 2/12/08

Resort or Ski Area: Wachusett Mountain, MA

Conditions: PP, Cloudy with Snow late, temps in the upper 10s

Trip Report:

Nice trip to Wachusett tonight... good conditions and small crowds once again. Didn't say late enough to see the snow start to pile up, but it was still very good beforehand. Ride home was a bit sketchy though.

Ropers/Balance Rock/Conifer: Ropers was very rough and thin right after the split from Balance to the road but it was smooth sailing from there. Balance was better, scraped in the middle but nice birms to the side and great coverage. Lower was the same, maybe a little more scraped. Conifer was great when I skied it around 4 with nice granular to the sides.

10th/Salamander: Only hit them once around 4, but it was great. 10th had the usual loose stuff on the right (still no bumps on the left). Salamander was pretty good, a little like Balance with better snow.

Smith: Took 2 runs few minutes after grooming. Some scratchy spots on the headwall, but nice in most spots. Lower had perfect snow for GS turns. Polar Express was in full speed with waits no longer than 5 minutes, usually 2-3.

Hitchcock: Skied it top to bottom for the first time all year. Felt nice going back in time as I barely ski it anymore. It was in good shape besides a little bit of frankensnow where they blew last night.

Look Mom: Spent 80% of my night in the park. 2 of the 3 small jumps on the left are in very good shape, but the middle one had a lip before the landing so if you came up short you were screwed. The rest was similar to Friday. The pipe was the best its been this year, cut was almost perfect and only the bottom had a few rough spots in the walls. Miniteman was in full speed with lines similar to Polar.

I may have another report from Wa Friday, but if not then my next day out will likely be Berkshire East Monday.

I was there from about 4:45 - 8:30 last night.

A good night overall... Smith was smith by the end of the night (headwall wicked scratched) but had a dusting of powder on top... everything else was pretty sweet all night. I was loving the lack of usual crowds.

I hope today doesn't screw things up too badly.

My buddies and I were out at WaWa last night also until close. I will also agree that the lack of the usual crowds (high school kids) was great, it felt like having our own ski area. As the night went on, the conditions continued to get better and better. However, the ride home back to Boston was rough. What normally takes an hour give or take, took well over 2 hours to get home. And by the concord rotary, it was pretty much white out. All in all worth the ride though!

I was there last night from 7:30-10. Spent half the night in the park and half off the 3 Polar Express trails. Last run of the night down Conifer was probably the best of the night. A solid 2-3 inches of powder with very few fresh tracks through it. My only gripe would be that the snow was so fine it felt like it was man made.

Ride home to Providence was AWFUL, took almost 3 hours.
