Resort or Ski Area: Wachusett, MA
Conditions: LSGR, Dust on Crust, 20s
Trip Report:
Good night after the rains of the past week. Most of the runs were good, just weird skiing in manmade granular after over a month of skiing mostly natural snow. Crowds weren't too bad for a Saturday night and everything was ski-on after 8.
Conifer: Very nice all night. Nice carveable base in the middle and deep LSGR on the sides. Even managed a nice face plant after hitting a birm wrong after the 1st road. A couple places at the top to ski off 2-3 foot drops which were cool despite the real flat landings.
10th: The bumps were almost somewhat decent. Some of the troughs were complete sheets, but troughs were soft thanks to the previous night's snowmaking. The trail was fast and a bit slick at the bottom
Smith: Very nice. Just about 100% carveable PP and very fast as well. Polar was in normal speed with a ~3 minute wait at points during the night but ski-on after 7:30 or so.
Hitchcock/Frannies: Upper Hitchcock was a mess. Lots of frozen puddles and bare spots from the rain which was real surprising and hopefully they blow some snow up there. The park was a sheet of ice for the most part with tons of morons standing in the way a lot of the time.
Look Ma: A few rails moved around and taken out since last week but the same otherwise. Some slick parts but most of it was decent. Got cut off a couple times on jump approaches by people flying in from other parts of the park without looking which ticked me off.
Ralph's: Good and carveable. Minuteman was in normal speed and had a 5+ minute line at some points but was also ski-on after a while.
Playing my schedule by ear this week. Was gonna go north Tuesday but I imagine the natural stuff is still frozen solid so I might stay here. Definitely want to get up VT Friday after the storm. Berkshire East may be in the cards as well. I'd like to hit Killington as well because I've never been there midseason so I haven't really gotten to experience some of the trails or woods there. After that, 24 hour night is coming up at Wachusett, Burke when I go to check out Lyndon State, and Stowe with my school. Depending on when AZ day at Sugarbush falls, I'll hopefully be there for that as well as MRG. I have 4 free tickets to Mt. Snow so that'll be my April destination a few times. Very busy March coming up for me, so I'll start snow dancing now.
