Trip Report:
Night of the year at Wachusett. Didn't even know it was supposed to snow around here tonight... I was just hoping to get up there for 2 hours or so of spring and then hop on out when it froze solid. Well, to sum it up, it killed me to have to leave after 5 hours, but there was no way I'm getting up at 5 for Killington tomorrow if I were to stay till closing. The snow came fast and furious after 6:00 and they had a good 2"+ by the time I left. And, as the story has been all week, the place was DESERTED.
10th: BUMPS BUMPS BUMPS. Attacked them from 4-5:30. They were beautifully soft from the 40 degrees. As the sun went down they got more crunchy but didn't really freeze solid at all. There was a pretty nice line just left of center and I hit it for an hour and a half straight. They finally roped it for grooming so I had to stop for a little while. Fast forward 2 hours... 7:30 and it's snowing heavily. Nice clingy snow really kept them skiable. It was getting slick by 8:30, but still edgeable which is unheard of for Wachusett bumps when it's below 35 degrees. Skiing the groomer to and fro was very sticky... almost as sticky as the snow I had at Mount Snow on Christmas Eve, but it was alright if you were on your edges.
Smith: Caught it when it opened from grooming and mint corduroy to blast down. Polar was in full speed and had a 15 chair wait max. Still can't believe this is February vacation.
Look Ma: Spent 5:30-7:30 in the park. The potatoes from earlier in the day got crunchy so it was fast but still soft. By 7:30, the new snow was so sticky that you couldn't get enough speed to clear any jumps which is when I headed back to 10th. Very fun night... park was a bit crowded early but thinned as the night went on. Minuteman was a bit slower than normal and had up to a 2 minute wait but usually was ski on.
Just a sick night at Wachusett. Wish I could've hit the bumps till 10 but I have to get to bed so I can get to Killington early tomorrow. Gonna be a sick day. So Killington tomorrow, possibly back to Wa Saturday night, and then Sundown Sunday unless it snows a lot in which case I might still end up at Berkshire East.
