Resort or Ski Area: Wachusett Mountain, MA
Conditions: PP and Chilly
Trip Report:
Tonight's trip was chilly with temps between 5 and 10 with a strong wind. Crowds were lighter than normal and the place completely cleared out around 7. Lodge was crowded like it usually is when it's cold.
Conifer/Balance Rock: Upper Balance was better than last week, not scraped as bad as normal. The only real bad spot was the turn off from Roper's Road. Lower Balance was similar to Upper. Conifer was amazingly crowded from 4-6 as it seemed everyone on the entire summit was on that trail. After grooming, there was nobody left and the Patrol went in so some big GS turns were in order. Fresh tracks could be found over 30 minutes after grooming.
10th/Salamander: 10th before grooming was typical with loose stuff to the side and scraped in the middle. Bumps looked OK, but sounded icy and I hurt my knee earlier so I passed. After grooming it was very fast all the way. Salamander was good.
Smith: Typical before grooming, fast the few runs after grooming before it got corny which made it slower. Nice turns on skier's left of Upper. Polar never got above a 5 minute wait and was ski on after 7 and was running in full speed.
Hitchcock: They murdered the jumps, they're just a bunch of mounds now. I made fresh tracks down Frannie's which was the only highlight about the run.
Look Ma: Same as last Friday They fixed up the small jumps a bit. One of the big jumps had an indentation in the landing which snagged a few people. Halfpipe, to put it blatantly, sucked. Minuteman had a 5 minute wait from 4-6 before becoming ski on later on.
Well, thats about it. I'll be back Friday night and then MRV this weekend.
