Resort: Wachusett

Conditions: Machined Groomed, Packed Powder,

Review: So my second post baby outting to Wa... Skied this morning from 8am to 10am, and it was sweet. Nice Machine Groomed Cord turning into packed powder/powdery conditions. They still have a pretty nice base, and hopefully will still be skiing for a few more weeks. Here are a couple of pictures for all of you guys stuck in work! For what it's worth though, they didn't open up Smith Walton because of "Ice Issues". Will be back there Thursday morning for the 8am crew!

Looking up Conifer:

I went over there tonight, but it was a waste of gas. They didn't groom for the night session, so the trails were a mess. Once the sun went down the chopped up crud started to harden into deep ruts and random piles. Just took maybe five runs to get some exercise, but it wasn't fun hacking down the trails. Did one run on Conifer and it was a little bit of everything, with big scraped off ice areas, crud piles, half formed moguls, etc. The snow was hard and uneven enough that I didn't feel safe blasting through it, so had to take things at a slow tiring pace. Guess I'm done night skiing there for the season if there won't be any more night grooming. They just get too much traffic for the trails to hold up for 12 hours.

Kind of throws a wrench in my plan to try get out a few more nights this season since I wouldn't get there until 6:30 or so.

I wonder what the rational is behind that.

Might be because they are closing at 8 now or since they were anticipating closing today due to the rain they didn't bother with grooming. I did notice after the last rain storm they had dug trenches on some of the trails to redirect run-off, they probably just waited until closing to do that again.

I'll be there on Friday for Ride-em and Rank-em and then probably taking the kids out for the last time on Saturday. I think the plan is to close on the 3rd with the pond skimming. I might go on the 2nd for the Up, Down & Around Challenge.

Yeah, they do this every year, at some point just eliminate being open till 10pm. Stupidly, they then open at 8am rather than 9am. It really stops me from going at nights. I can't leave Boston until 6. No point getting less than an hour in!

It's looking like I'll have got in 2 uses of my Wawa season pass this year....annoying
