Resort or Ski Area: Wachusett Mountain, MA
Conditions: Spring, Temps in the 50s
Trip Report:
Well, quite an underwhelming trip after Stowe, but just felt like getting out for a couple hours before Killington. Everything was very soft until about 5:30 when the clouds came rolling in and hardened most of the stuff up.
Ropers: Was closed, but did it anyway. All was skiable except for about 20 feet of mud right where the trail meets the road. Some pavement showing through, but there's plenty of snow as well.
Balance/Conifer: Balance was real good with no scraped spots whatsoever. Conifer was great on the right side with butter and softer mashed potatoes the whole way. Probably the best trail of the day.
10th/Salamander: Bumps were very crunchy and scraped in the troughs, not to mention most of the lines were poor, so I only went in once. The trail was also quite scraped compared to the rest of the mountain. Salamander was suprisingly nice with a few bare spots.
Smith: Pretty nice early on, but some random bumps that were hard to see ended up forming which kinda made it not as good. Polar was in 3/4 speed before 5, then full speed after.
Hitchcock: The mounds are gone. Theres a sucky bump field thats so short it takes like 10 seconds to go through towards the end. Decent for beginners though.
Look Ma: The 1st big jump is gone as are the 2 small jumps and a few rails. Didn't go in so I can't report on conditions there.
Challenger: Pretty fast for the 2nd half. Buttery at the top.
Ralph's: Same as challenger.
Well, that was day 26 of my season and probably my last night of the year. I'll be at Killington Sunday-Tuesday. The rest of my season includes Wachusett on Sunday, April 1st and either Wachusett or Sunapee for Good Friday.
