#1 Porcupines are shy animals they will almost always walk away from humans after puffing out their quills for a second. It was probably rabid or otherwise insane.

#2 Humans should not let Porcupines climb their leg. They are nice animals but meant to be observed from at least 6 feet away.

I'm surprised it didn't wack the guy with his tail instead of biting him, that's really weird behavior for a Porcupine.

Yeah I wondered if it was rabid, sick, or just starving and hence why it was acting so weird.

Speaking of porcupines... I was at our local zoo once and there was this big old porcupine in a cage with a walkway right in front. Well the Porcupine got up on his hind legs and did this dance and attracted a crowd of people in front of his cage and then suddenly he peed all over them. A zookeeper said he did this a lot.

When I was out at Alta 2 years ago I was told of a porcupine named Porky (I think) that would come out of the woods and walk right up to skiers and even paw at their legs like a dog. Of course, the only reason the porcupine did this was because humans kept feeding him (probably how he got his name). It wouldn't surprise me if Porky was the culprit. Maybe people will think twice now.

I've seen the bison/stupid human thing myself at Yellowstone. And there are signs all over warning people to specifically not walk near bison to take photos. One guy got out of his van about 5 feet away from one and was lucky to get back in the van before the bison almost knocked it on it's side. Totally trashed the driver's side door, then went back to feeding.

I'll give the porcupine guy a pass cause it may be Porky plus they are small and you coudl step on it if you really had to but the bison?? WTF is wrong with people?? Back ni my late teens I was doign valet parking at a restaurant on the water. We had a swan hanging out in the parking lot for a few weeks. I can't tell you how many people went right up to the bird with their kids even after I warned them adn the bird would snap at them. A couple of people were bit and a bunch more got the crap scared out of them. As they say ya just can't fix stupid.
