WATERVILLE VALLEY, New Hampshire -- The snowmaking crews at Waterville Valley, New Hampshire have been taking advantage of recent cold temperatures and the resort opens for the season this Saturday, November 17. Skiing and riding will be at the summit on two High Country trails serviced by the High Country lift. The White Peak Quad Chairlift will run for access only.

According to Tom Day, General Manager, "The next step in the snowmaking plan is to go down Tippecanoe and Lower Tippecanoe, shooting for top to bottom skiing for Thanksgiving, if not sooner". Until more terrain is open, lift tickets will be $25 for ages 18+, $20 for teens and $15 for youth.

Waterville Valley is also kicking off the season with a 1000 Can Challenge. With recent news announcements about the shortage in New Hampshire food pantries, Waterville Valley will try to give the food banks a needed lift before the holidays.

From opening day through Sunday, December 16, the ski area will take canned food donations to help re-stock the food banks. As an incentive for skiers and snowboarders to donate cans of food, there will be a raffle drawn on the last day of the drive. A $100 Waterville Valley gift card will be the top prize and the more cans someone brings, the better their chance of winning the gift card. For every can donated, skiers and snowboarders will receive a WV raffle ticket - bring one can and you get one entry, bring two cans and you get two raffle tickets and so on.

To check on snow conditions before heading north, log onto Waterville Valley's 2007-2008 web site at waterville.com. Waterville Valley posts daily photos and snow reports, weekly mountain reports, and updated videos from the slopes. Snow-vember/December ski and stay packages from $77 per person along with Thanksgiving specials can be booked online or by calling 1-800-GO VALLEY.
