Anyone ever toured the Welch-Dickey loop outside of WV on Rt 49? Have been eyeing this for many years as my parents live in WV and I drive by it all the time. Taking a look at a topo map it looks as though the inside ravine would be steep enough to ski. I know the front side is steep enough as I have seen tracks on it drive down Rt 49. Any intel would be great help.

Tomorrow may be the day to go check it out!

Thanks

Along the Welch-Dickey Loop Trail, the upper portion of Welch would be very tough to navigate on skis, as it has multiple tight ledge scrambles. There are a few extended open ledges off each peak, though they do seem to melt out quickly.

For nordic purposes, following the old Dickey Notch Trail might be worthwhile.
