Am I the only person who dreds having to put my foot in my boot for the first time everyseason. Its like, I'm psyched to go out skiing, but it was so great not having to stomp around a lodge trying to put that stupid thing on. And then if it's really really cold your first day, and the boot needs to kind of re mold for the season, but won't because its just sooo freaking cold. I mean, sure, you walked around your house for days in boots, but its just not the same.

My boots have been on my feet at least every other day, for the past few weeks, so they will just slip on no problem. Just keep them in the car and they will be warm for your foot when you put it in.

It helps to use a lodge's boot heaters at least the first trip out. Than again many ski areas don't have them readily available.

my boots slide on like butter, no dred here. tip: put your boots in the passenger seat foot area and crank the heater on full blast for a while prior to arriving at the ski area if you are flying solo. if the woman is along, tell her she can ride in the backseat. "but baby, my feet will be sore if you don't...." ;)

My boots go right on. The wifes are a bit of a challenge. I got these little battery powered boot dryers. I don't think they could dry anything because the are pretty weak as far as heat goes, but putting them in her boot for the last 15-20 minutes of the car ride makes her toe box nice and toasty when she puts her foot in. She says it is enough to keep her feet warm for a few hours.

When using the SUV, I put the boots in the back seat and use the rear heater to warm them up. When using my car, they go under the heater in the front. This most definetly makes a difference when putting the boots on and helps the boots mold to you feet.

Maybe you need different boots....

if your boots hurt, get new ones

if they take a while to loosen up, wear them before you get to the mountain

if they still hurt after doing those two things, go get some orthotic inserts

if they still hurt, pop three advil and go find some powder, that should do the trick

Assuming your boots are the right size, the best way to make putting them on less difficult is to make sure they are warm. I always keep my boots inside the car. As someone else posted, a few minutes in front of the heater outlet blowing air inside helps a lot.

The worst thing is to leave the boots in the car for the night or in a cold location. I learned the difference that this makes a few years ago and now keep them in my hotel room at night. I have very poor circulation and have cold feet even in the summer time. I got hotronics installed in 2003 after skiing in -25F at Sugarloaf and now I keep my boots on in the car sometimes when my wife drives home because they feel so comfortable.

I do suffer from a big toe contusion on my right foot and I lose my toenail every winter, this is more due to the fact that I lean back while skiing and put pressure on the nail. I just endure the pain until the toenail is dead and then enjoy the rest of the season. Last year three days of back to back skiing on Thanksgiving weekend killed it right away.

Another reason to snowboard... or learn to ski better and not lean back so much...

I have skied that way since I was 12 years old, and alot of it has to do with a bad back/posture since I have a slight spinal deformity since birth. Pole plants help to correct this, however I just take the laid back approach to skiing for the most part and enjoy the view.

I should probably take up water skiing, I would most likely be a pro from the start.

Since I'm still of growing age, I also dread putting my boots on each year, since there's a chance they might not fit. Last week I tried on the boots I bought last year, which thankfully still fit. Hopefully they will last all of this year and possibly next year, as well. It's possible that my feet have stopped growing, I'm now a 10.5 and hoping not to be much more.
After getting past all of this, trying on boots for the season is exciting for me, as it's a reminder that the snow will begin falling soon. All summer I was tempted to try them on, but I decided it would be best to save it for the fall.
