It's a sign that your limiting yourself to just one thing and want to explore the whole range of alpine pursuits without thinking about "sides"..

Because - we are not on any side... The whole idea is to become one with the mountain and not be part of a faction.. We are alpinists... The mountain doesn't care what we are riding on.. It treats each of us the same way...

And why not do it all? Each discipline offers new fun and new ways to ride the mountains... I love snowboarding a lot... But skiing, glisading and telemarking are also part of my alpine pursuits...

Yeah, but the mountain cares when snowboarders scare all the snow down with them. Plus the mountain hates plaid jackets, baggy ski pants that look like jeans and people who don't regularly wipe their noses.

Now, now. None of this "us vs. them" thing. It used to make sense when crotchity old guys griped about upstart knuckle-draggers. But since the advent of the new school of skiing, age isn't the issue anymore. The bagginess of one's clothes seems to be the real problem.

Having skied for the first 12 years, I converted to boarding for the next 12, and I've recently gone back to skiing. It's safe to say that each method of descending a mountain at high speed has its own pluses and minuses. However, I will say that nothing beats a snowboard on a powder day. Now, I don't speak for free-heelers. Those guys are just plain weird.

And, can we put this "snowboarders push snow down the mountain" thing? I have two words for that complaint "Snow Plow".

Just to clarify, my snowboarding comment was just a friendly jab. I have no problems at all with snowboarders or snowboarding as a sport and have many friends that switched from skiing to boarding. Its all good....

.....even if some of them do wear too much plaid
