What is your preferred method of installed lift service?

Fixed grip lift with the carpet loader. Runs fast, inexpensive (compared to a HSQ).

Nick likes the detachables with the carpet loader.:wink: I've never seen a fixed grip with the carpet loader, I assume you're talking about the conveyor belt thingy. The first one I've used was at Santa Fe Ski, the only other, Nick's fav at Sugarloaf, the one that replaced Spillway, whatever they're calling it now.

Riding the single at MRG for the first time last year was cool. I got a little nervous before I rode it, watching it fling the patrollers off the ground in front of me, it must be the fastest fixed gripped chair around, that sucker moves.

Can just picture this, like the car scene in one of the Cheech and Chong movies. Used to love Poma's but not many around anymore. The lift that gets me to where I want to ski is my favorite at any given time.

The conveyor belt things work fine if there is a set time for you to pass through the gate. If you are late or early crazy things can happen. I have seen people get on to early and go off the end of the conveyor belt 2 meters high (It was in Chamonix so I thought I would use meters). They had nothing to tell you when to go - you just had to time it right. At least it never held anything up because they people just flew off the end. :-o Also saw a few get hit with the chair because they got on too late but they would just fall off the end as well another was too many people on one chair which was a good one too.

I'll do the opposite.Least favorite is the tram,next gondi,ropetow,t-bar,plattter,hsq or more,fixed 3 or more,then fixed double.

You're right, I think the one at Santa Fe is fixed gripped too, guess they all are with the carpet. I've never ridden the bubble chairs, seems like it'd be great for skiing in the rain. I don't mind actually skiing in the rain, riding chairs in the rain really sucks.

HSQ all the way. I have no use for taking my skis off. T-bars can be fun from time to time, and I certainly can appreciate strategicly placed fixed grip lifts, but generally speaking I just want to get to the top as quickly as possible.

Storm King at Copper is a detachable High Speed Single(Poma). It is probably the most fun lift on the planet to watch people load....especially snowboarders.

I had no idea I was in the minority of people who love a Gondola ride. Unless it's a really warm day in which case a nice high speed detachable lift is also great.

Really the main factor here is speed. I don't like crawling up the hill at a snail's pace and thinking how many runs I could be getting in if only the lift moved along!!

Trams are cool mostly for the novelty factor as I've spent less time using them than other kinds of lifts, and they typically access awesome terrain.

My least favorite lift is MRG's single chair as in my experience the lines are always long and it takes forever to load one at a time. Plus riding a lift to me is best a social experience, a nice chance to chat up other skiers and meet girls. Riding up alone is boring, although I realize a lot of people probably prefer it that way.

I actually like the single chair. It allows me to think. I think I'm a pretty social person so it's got nothing to do with being a loner or a misanthrope. I just like the solitude once in a while.

Nick, no worries on your conveyer belt mishaps. I took a dive off of the one at Mount Snow after 45 minutes in line saying: "why the hell can't these jerkoffs get on the left without falling?"

I had a kid on a snowboard trip up and accidentally push me from behind. My skis went on the belt too early and fell off the landing. The 3 other guys with me decided to go too. It was quite the spectacle, skis everywhere.
