Killington, Loon, Waterville - hope to never go there again on a weekend; a discount ticket for a midweek adventure and I'd be there in a blink
Whiteface - haven't been yet, but distance combined with sketchy weather conditions has so far kept me away. Really hope to get there.
Mountain Creek - may I never have to ski among the masses and deal with a kicking off my skis to ride on that cabriolet again

Loon, Waterville, Bretton Woods. Close by, but why bother?

Mount Snow, Bromley, Stratton. Too far for too little.

K-mart: Yes, in the ASC days (and $2 for diesel) I could make a quick trip, work a half day and ski half day. those days are gone. Someday bigger, same thing.

The only two good mountains not worth the drive for me are Whiteface and Smuggs. Would love to do Mt. Ste Anne and La Massiff but thats gotta be 8 hours or so.

I agree that Sunday River is the least crowded of all major resorts. The Oz chair will have empties on the busiest day.

If your an expert skier and live in NY, CT or PA the only unique experiences in Maine and NH that your missing is the snow fields at Sugarloaf, Wildcat and Cannon. All have weather issues.

the snow fields really don't look that interesting to me. they look like a small version of top of mansfield. now i might consider a trip to do Mount Katahdin.

Go to Killington,Stratton, Mt Snow, Okemo or even Sugarbush on a Sat / Sun and then tell me that they're as crowded as SR. Yeah Right....

I do like the terrain at K-ton, but will never, ever go there on a weekend.

Sugarbush does not belong in the same sentence as southern /central VT mountains for crowds and liftlines on a Saturday/Sunday. People make the extra drive time to Sugarbush to avoid the crowds.

Katahdin is huge. The skiing you can do there is featured on a BC ski flick by Meathead ski films about skiing the five highest peaks in N.E. . . Basin chutes I believe and it took a 13 mile slog into the park to get to Roaring brook campground. Then you start ascending. But those chutes are insane. Looks like they're skiing out west. As to the snowfields, I can assure you they're much larger and steeper than meets the eye and kick royal AS* when the snow's good. Top of Sugarloaf's only 100' or so lower than top of Mansfield so I'm not sure how much of a size diffrence there really is. Moreover, there's a shitload of killer terrain as to get to treeline. . . the whole east side is pretty much skiable now. There've been numerous new glades cut to the east of king pine that are steep and long-- one glade has two 25' cliffs. If it does compare to the top of Mansfield, that'd be a good thing. Nothing to sneeze at there. Have only been up there in summer but looks like there'd be a ton of skiing on both sides with enough snow. Imagine if you did the back, you'd have to hike back up-- like at Saddleback.

Bro, you're really missing out if you think that way. There's way more unique experiences at the Loaf than just the snowfields. The Loaf can have weather (wind) issues but that's 'cause it kicks ass. It's steep, tall, and far enough north and north facing to preserve snow. But it is quite distant from the big cities so going there's not an issue for many.

It's a shame but I would have to say Mountaincreek, and since I have either lived in Brooklyn or Jersey my whole life, it really isin't the distance that kills me. That was the first place I learned to ski and ride and it's pretty much dead to me, crowds, yahoo fools, and lackluster terrain are but a few of the dealbreakers for me. Now if they would just hurry up and complete Xanadu....

pretty much all of CT, MA, NJ, PA, and NY is off my radar...to far south or west, would have to drive much further than the great skiing in new england. The one exception is Whiteface...gotta get over there to see HPD for a tour...and beer(s)

Off my radar would be anything north of Whiteface simply because if the conditions are good enought for me to "travel" I'm not going any farther than I have to for "big mnt" skiing. If it's a "trip" with my wife and friends than it's off to Smuggs/Stowe. Limited I know but that's just how I roll.

Mountain Creek, One big mess that just plain sucks.

Anything in PA with the exception of Blue (and that's only if I'm jonesing for something close.) Rather then waste time and money driving to little hills, I would just prefer to drive to the skills.

Anything in CT or RI

Sugarloaf
, not completely off the radar, but it is one hell of a hike. Hope to make it one of these day.

Other than that, just some of the smaller hills that are in close(relatively speaking) proximity to bigger and better. i.e, I will not drive 3 hours to ski West Mountain, when I could continue on to Gore/Whitface or anything in VT

Whiteface, Killington, Hunter, Sugarbush, Stowe, MRG, and Sugarloaf are all completely off my radar because they all suck...

I can never see myself skiing in NH, other then Tucks. I'm probably missing some great places, but if I'm going to drive east there's too many good places in Vt. to justify the added driving for me.

If I were you, my train of thought would be exactly the same. There is good skiing to be had in NH, but rarely is it as good as Northern VT. I love Wildcat and I'm sure I'd love Cannon to (went as a kid over 20 years ago and can't remember much), but I'd rather be skiing in the MRV, Stowe or Jay.
