I've been wondering this all month. I've never seen many areas go past February Vacation, but with the upcoming cold temps, will they keep on going? They probably have some money left over from the less than normal use in January. I think some areas may keep blowing right into March.

I think we just covered this recently. I would try to find the thread for ya, but the search feature isn't working too good yet.

To answer your question; I don't think you'll see anyone making snow for the rest of this season...

Bellayre has been known to blow snow in mid-March to make it to late April..

I had heard that due to the warm weather this winter Hunter hasn't used up it's energy allotment(or something to that effect) yet... I bet they blow snow this weekend when the temps drop again... And after that they could coast until the end of the season.. There's a s-load of deep snow on all the main routes..

Plus - don't count out a snowy March... :)

Wachusett has then shut off tonight due to the fact the temps are very marginable. I don't know if they'll turn them on tomorrow night during the skiathon (they might when they shut down the beginner area). This weekend will be the true test.

My snowmaking friends told me they will be all done after this weekend @ the Bush and ME. But, man they have been putting it right to it this week!

Wachusett will make snow all the way into March.

I think it was two years ago that they freshened-up a couple trails in April.

I remember that. That kept them open till Patriot's Day that year. It was amazing. Too bad I couldn't go. I did go the day they were making snow, April 6th.

Rule of thumb has been for them to blow snow to get ready for this week. They pull the plug this week. Some places in the south will go longer if the weather demands. Very expensive, but some places like Pats Peak have Polecats that operate when needed and require little labor. Most snowmakers are now laid off....but this season may be an exception to the rule. Lots of snowmaking as of late because of the bad weather.

Loon slightly exceeded their budget. It costs them approximately $1000/hr for electricity for snowmaking. They won't need to keep making snow. The more snow you make, the more money you lose.

Elk was blowing like crazy yesterday morning. The mountain has the deepest base of the season. A little natural snow and...oh, that'll never happen this year :(

Wawa is making snow tonight. Wouldn't be suprised to see them blow enough snow to make it to Easter if this pattern keeps up.

Apparently Hunter will take advantage of cold weather, even after President's week. It was truly amazing seeing the amount of snow they were pumping out yesterday. Made for a fantastic skiing surface!

Wawa continues snowmaking tonight on... get this... Balance Rock. A trail that 95% of the time is open on natural snow and hasn't opened at all this year except for maybe a day after the blizzard. Good to see Wa's still trying to open trails instead of just add base. They'll also blow on the entire summit tonight.

And how many resorts have already put snowmakers away?
