Whats your favorite BC Trip in the North East?

As I look forward to planning several backcountry ski outings I thought I would ask all you good folks for your favorites.

I have only a few trips under my belt but the Gulf of Slides goes down as my favorite so far.

I am hoping to get above the ridgeline this year and spend some time in the Mt. Washington Snowfields. I'd also like to do the Tuckerbrook trail on Cannon and Mt. Moosilauke.

Where are you planning to go?

Not a backcountry skier myself, but I hiked up to HoJo's last May and the thought of skiing Tucks really intrigued me. I'd also like to check out the Thunderbolt on Greylock someday...

Thunderbolt

Hey Greg.

I too would love to ski Thunderbolt. I have done some reading and found that it is generally only good in high snow years as there has been little trail maintanence done over the years. Who knows - this could be a good year. It is starting to look that way in Colorado already.

I've skiing all the trails on Moosilauke several times, my favorite trip is up Snapper down Gorge Brook. The Carriage Road is also a great ski.

Others that are great fun are Tuckerman, of course, Gulf of Slides, even just up to the base of the ravine, and the Wildcat Ski tour. This year I'm going to try Garfield and Tucker Brook.

There's lots in VT, especially along the Catamount trail. The only section that I've done is Bolton -> Trapp, which is a great tour.

So far, I've done Mosilauke (Carriage Rd...have not descended Gorge Brook but will this year), Camel's Hump, and the Thunderbolt. So far, the best is the Thunderbolt. It's friggin' great. Yes, you do need a decent amount of snow, but it's not as bad as you might think. I didn't ski it last year (bad snow year), but 2 years ago there must have been a 5 foot base and it ROCKED ! I'd like to hit it multiple times this year, conditions permitting.
