Hunter is just over 3 hours one way for me, and I don't think twice about that. But there isn't another place worth going to with only an additional hour of driving. Probably two more hours to Mount Snow and 2-1/2 to Killington. Out of reach for a day trip.

I don't like going more than 2, but have done 3 before to get to Jay. I can get to anyplace in NH and VT along with Sunday River within 3, anything further than that I stay a night.

Two and a half hours would be about it for a day of skiing.

I must be getting soft 'cause I once drove out to Colorado to ski for Thanksgiving break.
Just over two thousand miles each way (30 hours!). Skied a day and a half and drove back in time for work on Monday. ;-)

Interesting to see that most people's max is pretty similar. Boston Metro North has perhaps the best one day max day trip range available for a large city as you can hit pretty much anything in New England within four hours save for just a tad longer to get to the Loaf. Most ski areas accept Jay and Saddleback would fall within 3.5 hours max from the city. It puts all of New England on the playing field where as it seems the CT and NYC folks are limited to western New England and NY for day tripping and Maine is a super long over night.

rule of thumb for me.. total drive time cannot exceed total skiing time. for me in SW CT. Okemo/MT Snow/Magic are about 3 hours. i did make it home from MRG in 4 hours but i don't think that is repeatable.

Glad i don't subscribe to that... Would've missed some great skiing in my life...

For me, it's not even so much splitting the driving. It's just at least having someone with me to bullshit with. That cuts the perceived time down a lot.

No doubt... I like someone with me... But i like to drive.. Time goes faster for me behind the wheel...

The farthest I will drive without another driver to relieve me is about 3 to 4 hours. I've done Killington several times which is 2.5 to 3 hours solo.

+1, we must live close, same drive distances. Sugarbush is my limit, which ends up usually being 3.5-4 hours for me.

3-1/2. I can hit Okmeo/Stratton/Cannon (and the obvious closer Rt93 stops)...even Killington.

Jay, Sugarbush, Sugarloaf...long ways to go...passing up lots of other spots.

I'd consider doing it...but it would have to be for an AZ event and sharing the ride/drive.

For daytripping about 2 hrs one way if i'm alone, otherwise 3.5 hrs one way , General rule of thumb however if its over 2 hrs hell its gonna be a 2-3 day roadtrip

The longest we do is about 3.5 hours which gets us to MRG & SugarBush. We did those hills as day trips a couple of times last year. It does make for a long day. Having someone to talk with, and share driving makes thing alot easier.

I agree with GM. On snow time has to exceed total drive time.

I have become a bit more careful since I'm usually tired for the drive home. Recently we have made trips that include one over night w/ night skiing and next day skiing during the week. We rarely ski on weekends anymore. Waiting in line equals less time skiing.

That's pretty good time for southern Ma.My best time from SL to Worcester was 3:50 and that was doing 15-20mph over the speed limit.

I did a day trip once to the loaf but I'll probably never do that again. My max is about 3.5 hrs but I don't usually go that far. If I day trip I usually go to Cannon which is under 2.5 for me. I can make it to S.Vermont in less time than that but I normally don't do that on weekends.

I twice did Killington in one day from New Haven, CT when I was at college..3.5 each way. If I'm doing a day trip from the city, Hunter is 2.5 hours, and I really can't get anything worth skiing for less. Ideally I would want <2 hours, but well ...

Growing up my family had a vacation place at Lake George (Bolton Landing, not the village). We'd mostly ski Gore (~40 minutes), but sometimes would go to VT. Killington and Sugarbush were <2 hours (maybe around 1:45 for SB and a little more for K, really depends on how fast you drive). Whiteface 1.5 or so. So then the goal was <2 hours.
