I can't resist going to Cannon. With an expected 9 inches for that area I can't miss the possible last opportunity to hit up mittersill. I am very excited as I am sure the back country skiing will be superb after Fridays snow!! Can't wait, My brother and I will be at the tram for the first tracks lift that leaves. Me- grey jacket orange goggles helmet élan m12's, Brother-orange jacket orange goggles helmet r11's if any of you guys venture up to cannon don't hesitate to say hi.

Sunday at Waterville Valley. I'll warm up on the greens then be out learning and pushing my limits on the blues. I'll have a blue/purple shell over black fleece and black snow pants. Heck - lemme do a new avatar and that's what I'll look like. :D

I am going to go Sunday most likey to Butternut only because I do not know how long they will be open. Have to get my $$ worth out of the seasons pass. Jiminy is usually good to ski through Easter.

Well since this site will soon be covering Maryland I'll chime in. I'm hitting Wisp for the first time ever. 4 hour drive for a 610 ft. vertical. The $20 spring rate lift ticket got me to chose Wisp over 7Springs. I guess you could say I'm driven to ski!

Waterville kicked my butt today. The combination of soft conditions, new boots, and longer skis made just the Valley Run green more than I could handle.

Practice ... practice ... practice.

Oh, and some fantastic sales were to be had this weekend. WV had 40-50% on gear and clothing. Got me a new jacket, too. Woo-hoo!

I'll get a full trip report up at some point, as well as follow up on my boots thread with a shopping report.

My better half and I went to Bretton Woods this weekend, very nice place for novices/timid intermediates with nice greens and easy blues off every lift. In the morning, we did almost all the open blacks (Wambeck, Zealand, Deception Bowl), I'd describe them as solid blues rather than true black diamonds--indeed, I think some of the blues at Stowe are steeper. But the conditions were good and we really enjoyed them. OTH, by mid afternoon, the greens down toward the based had become a combination of skied off ice with piles of heavy granular/slush. IMO, the condition of the greens in the afternoon made them much tougher than the much steeper terrain we skied in the morning.

One of the reasons why I'm done for the season. I'm not particularly fond of spring skiing, especially when it includes messy piles of slush (which is about all that's left here in CT). Trails that I had no problems with just a month ago have now become a lot more difficult and frustrating. We're supposed to get a few inches of snow Tues night, but it will be mixed in with rain before that, so I don't think it will be helping conditions around here at all... Maybe a bit further north will get some help from that storm system, though.

re: 1" on ground this morning, more predicted Wed &

Well Sugarloaf must have received some snow in the early AM hours. Forecasters are predicting more for Bangor(ME) Wed. & Thurs...... Maybe this last gasp of Winter will keep Shawnee Peak open for a while(haven't checked it lately)
 ..Michael, got new boots ~2weeks ago, great fit, great performance liner and the warmest feet I've had in 4yrs....but have yet to receive the AT bindings for the new skis, thus have been using my longer & softer intermediate skis with less edgegrip...feels like I'm steering a dumptruck with bald tires :x

Belleayre...of course...

Was up at my home mountain (Belleayre Mountain). We had our annual Ski Patrol BBQ. We do this every year to raise money to buy the various things we need to do Ski Patrol (sleds, supplies, jackets, etc.). It's always a huge hit and this year was no exception. I even (finally) won something during the raffle. I won a free 1-hour private lesson. I'm happy I finally won something but I get lessons for free already! :)

Anyway, the snow on Saturday was awesome (I didn't ski on Sunday). It's the best snow we've had all year. It was colder than expected (20 degrees with a 20-30mph wind) but the snow was pure sugar. Had a blast all day. I'm sure Sunday was even nicer since it wasn't supposed to be so cold and windy. Bottom line is the mountain is in better shape than it's been all year. If you're looking for a great place to ski this time of year, check us out. If you go, stop in the patrol room and ask if Rick Farmer is working. If I'm on (I'm only there on weekends) they can catch me on the radio. I'd be more than happy to show you around the mountain.
