Okay. Looking for some opinions on my trip west this year. I skied JH last year. I have skied Squaw. These are what I am thinking of. Give pro's and con's for your vote

1.) Big Sky
2.) A-Basin
3.) Alta
4.) Whislter-Blackcomb
5.) Mt. Baker

I am leaning towards Alta due to flight convenience and proximity. Also Wasatch Powderbirds for one day. Big Sky is second but snow is more iffy.

I'd do a Summit County tour. That would include A-Basin which is the sking mecca of CO as far as I'm concerned. Alot of kick ass hills on the I-70 swing...Loveland, A-Basin, Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper, Vail, Beaver Creek.

Some people will tell you that places like Vail or Beaver Creek are for gapers, but they don't know what they're talking about. Plenty of kick ass terrain at all those places, even Keystone which people love to bash.

Even if you're there for 2 weeks, how hard would it be to ski any of those mountains for a day or two?

My caveat is that you should plan to go in March when CO is at it's finest.

I am going for 3-4 days only. Ususally I will ski one place only.

Got it...if that's the case go with Alta.

Easier access, depending on your preferences you don't need a car whereas at A-Basin you will.

The 2 areas are similar with regard to slow lifts, low capacity snowmaking (don't need it) and traversing/hiking to the best lines. You can't go wrong either way really.

Alta!!!!!!!!!!!! And some Snowbird, and maybe a little Solitude. You really should explore a little. Utah's mountains are all VERY different.

Atla ALL THE WAY-- I went for 4 days last year (see Alta TR) and it was sick. Just a great place to ski and it's so easy to get to. In fact since it is so close to the airport you get at least 1/2 of a day of skiing in as you can ski the afternoon you arrive, or the morning you leave.

One more vote for Alta. Best snow on earth.

Can even do it on the cheap, if need be by staying in Sandy and riding the bus up the canyon.

1) Big Sky - don't know.
2) A-Basin - fun and challenging, but small. The I-70 recommendation is also a good one with all the excellent resorts around. I also second that Keystone is a good area - even complimentary snowcat rides out on the second hill.
3) Alta - great terrain and easy to get to. With all the other great areas so close, it's a compelling choice.
4) Whistler - Easily the biggest and best, BUT - the weather could be great, and could SUCK for days on end. Whistler has as much terrain by itself as all of the Cottonwood areas.
5) Mt. Baker - If you're that close to Whistler, why bother?
