Originally, I had planned on skiing Black Mountain (NH) this Saturday, but now I see there's a good chance of rain on Friday, and I'm nervous that it'll kill the conditions for any ungroomed trails, particularly Lostbo, White Knuckle, and the glades.

So I'm thinking of calling an audible. Where should I go on Saturday that will be the least affected by rain on Friday?

My concerns are:
  • Price
  • Distance from Manchester, NH (would prefer to keep it under 3 hours)
  • Expert Terrain
  • Glades

Saddleback seems too far, as does Jay Peak, so I'm considering Burke. How does the mountain hold up to a little rain?

I'm doing Jay on Sunday. Have to be in VT for work on Monday, so the extra drive doesn't bother me since I'll stay the night. Plus, the VT travel club price of $37 works for me too.

I'm already locked into a $29 Sunday lift ticket at Wildcat from Liftopia. So I'll be there regardless of conditions.

How does Jay Peak hold up to a little rain? Between Jay and Burke, what does everybody think?

Honestly, it is too tough to say. Any mountain will be impacted by rain. Period. It can be a crapshoot as to which mountain did better. You honestly don't know until after the fact.

I don't know what the forecast is...right now it is on the snow/rain line. Will there be wind? If so, Jay would likely have windholds. Burke does not. But Burke has less snow in general than Jay. Burke just got about 6 or 7 inches of fresh. I don't know how they did after the last thaw.

The Loaf and Saddleback appear to be getting some snow and there is no rain/mix in the forecast. Tree's should be nice at The Back so I'll probably be heading there for the weekend.
